Hi,
here are the first renders of my well with 2.43

* title: Karst water well
* motivation: It's a typical well which were used in the Karst region of Slovenia in times past. Nowadays such wells are an iconic part of the architectural scenery. Stone was the main building material, so I focused on trying to reproduce believable stone, alongside with wood.
* legal: All the models and textures are made by me (images for said textures from various free sites).

* spec: Rendered with Octane beta 2.43, resolution 2048x1024, 600 samples / pixel in 01:06:52 on GTX 460, with pathtracing. Illumination mode is daylight only. The sky & hill for background is a uv-mapped photo on a plane (as you can see on the viewport screencapture), rendered inside Octane.
* postpro: only de-noising

* spec: Rendered with Octane beta 2.43, resolution 1843x1350, 612 samples / pixel in 01:07:44 on GTX 460, with pathtracing. Illumination mode is daylight only.
* postpro: only de-noising

EDIT: Results of a sleepless night..

* spec:
- Rendered with Octane beta 2.43, resolution 1360x1638, 5957 samples in 07:00:36 on GTX 460, with pathtracing.
- Illumination by emitters and IBL (HDRI for IBL from hdrlabs.com).
- 2.033.424 triangles, 1363.5 MB of memory usage.
- The sky for the background is a textured plane rendered together with everything else in Octane (as you can see in the attached screencapture)
* postpro: slight denoising, a tad of bloom to the third picture

Here's my entry. Model is Dodge CAD model downloaded from The CGI Zone. I used photoshop to adjust levels, color, add bloom and resize image. I'll post SS from octane later today.

Cheers,

Well this is my last entry. We all need a break from work from time to time, much more Hell's civil servants, think listening the whole day thru to politicians and lawyers complaing about their sorrows, nah, that's no fun. So after some soul crunching he needs to get a cold beer can, a nice cigar, make himself a nice fishing rod and find a nice and warm place to be by himself.
(Funny I thought of this before Radiance said anything but if instead of the demon you put him and us (hungry crazy customers) instead of lawyers and replace soul with code the picture might be right too, ;) )
You can see the whole explanation, the discarded renders and the wip here http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5220, all modeled and textured by me, moon, fog and smoke from alien entry, and same credits apply. Pathtracing for 4000-9000 samples and 4-6 hrs, no retouching, no hotpixel removal, just logo and converted to jpg.
As a last thought I have to say that this contest has been the most fun in a long while. I've done stuff pretty far away from my usual and have learned a lot, not only about Octane, but character modeling and particles, so overall it's been fantastic. The rest of the contestants entries are plain awesomeness so kudos to all!
