just my opinion but since the competition was already extended, why not finish it in the established time with a reduction in the number of prizes and open a new more extended, rich and free competition for spring time?

Yeah I would go with ending this one now and starting fresh in the New Year too but for the fact Refractive stated the prizes already.
Considering the lack of entries I suppose they could ask to hold some prizes over until the next competition and people might generously go along with it but....
Perhaps give out 3 prizes now and carry over all other entries to the next competition for a second chance to win along with some consolation bonus points?

...i'm sorry for my english..
Maybe another extension is ok for me, but i don't think is good idea change/cancel the theme,
i saw all the works and i think that is very difficult a test for my capacity (respect to the your progect ;),
my idea is not totaly complete and i don't have a big talent to make a draft to explain all, but i hope to finish before the end of this year.
don't close it the contest, for me it's important, partecipate and naturaly maybe win???

I'm agree with pixel rush especially with different categories, still image and animation:

"no longer than 3 months, open theme.
some skill categories
-best simple scene
-best std scene
-best complex scene."

However I believe that extending competition, many people will participate. :)

For me it was the theme. But I also think so many people have down some great stuff with a difficult theme. So extending it might be good.

In addition I was waiting for instances. Then I would have had a go anyway.

Its a tough call. I'd extend it but leave the theme.

HELLO everyone, I agree with Matej.
There must be many participants as I spent a few days little sleep to make time to participate in the contest, but because there is no set rule about posts wips we will deliver the arts only at the end because then we will take all the time possible to improve what we can. I think unfair to leave the issue open and postpone the award for a few months, might be good to extend for some time but not months.

I think all the competition has to have a theme and divided into categories of "illustration" and "animation", leave everything open turns messy and there may be artists who failed to attend for that reason.

In an illustration the level of detail needs to be larger, highpolys etc...in an animation usually do not need so many details and often we can use to lowpoly lot but then we have much work animating, script, effects, and we also have to have a faster machine ... What I mean is that the two "illustration" or "animation" has its distinct works and values and but give two differently.

I think the ideal would be to resolve the situation extend for some time but not "months" and set a register of participants with wips work for the team's octane has a better sense of how many participants there are and the overall progress. if that does not advance then reducing the awards how much you need but to finish what we started and avoid a very large increase or be transformed into another competition

For those who seriously worked on the competition in the last months, extending it a bit (max one month) is the least unfair option of all unfair options proposed.

Anyway, RS needs to make up their minds ASAP and let us know. There's only 5 days to the deadline.

I'm guessing we read the prophecies wrong, the world was not coming to an end on december 31st 2011, but somewhere between january-march 2012 ;)
Let's see who can picture it better
