I noticed its only prime.. and the network button doesn’t do anything. I was running C4D and had everything setup … but now with Modo .. are we really stuck only in really old version and in prime?

Hi,
the Prime version is not an issue, but Network Rendering has been added only from 2024.1 version, so you need a Modo Prima 2024.1 version to be able to have Net Render in macOS.

Try to ask in the Modo section of this forum about that specific version.

You can find it here:
viewtopic.php?f=85&t=84012

For a correct installation of c4doctane 2024.1 plugin, firstly you need to update your Maxon C4D to a recent build, (R25.117, R26.107, 2023.2, 2024.4, 2025.0.1), or plugin cannot be correctly loaded, please visit your MyMaxon page and download the update.

Beppe

Hi,
about this screenshot:
IMG_3550.jpeg

It seems that plugin is not installed correctly and probably something is missing from the original folder!

Please download it again, then uncompress it in the plugins folder, then remove only the .xlib files not related to your Maxon C4D version.

It should be like this in C4D 2025:

Not sure if this is possible yet as it seems like a feature on the cutting edge, but is it possible and or is there any plan to support using an iPad Pro M4 as an additional render GPU when using a Mac? I have a MacBook Pro and would love to be able to speed up renders by plugging in my iPad to use as an additional GPU.

Thanks!

I would like to know this too. But more for setting up scenes on the iPad and using Network Rendering to render them to other Macs and / or Windows machines as Network Slaves (is that headless rendering?).

Hi guys,

the devs have introduced a new experimental feature in Standalone 2025.1 named Octane Server:
IMG_3609.jpeg

There is still a lot of work to do, but it seems very promising!

Quoting from 2025.1-Beta1 discussion:
We stopped the development of headless network rendering based on the existing network rendering architecture a while ago, because these days Octane needs the GPU for a lot more things than just path-tracing and it would make it very hard to manage all the additional data transfers that are required to make that work remotely. We may still continue the development in the future, but it doesn't have priority right now.

However, the OctaneServer is an alternative approach that transfers the source data to another process, which can be remote and thus should allow headless network rendering relatively easily. For now I see this as the more manageable way to implement the concept of headless network rendering.

Happy GPU rendering!

I don’t understand how this new server thing is different than the Network rendering we now have. Maybe when I try the Octane 2025 Beta I might get a better picture of what it’s about.

Regardless: can and will it be able to allow an iPad Pro M4 (and whatever comes next) to contribute to a render job started from another machine. And will it also allow cross platform network rendering?

After using my new iPad Pro 13” M4 I have developed a renewed interest in working on Macs again. Seriously thinking about getting a new Mac Mini M4 Pro or two. This might save me the trouble next year of trying to buy what will most likely be an even more expansive (or comparable cost depending on Mac Mini upgrades) RTX 5090 (upgrading from 3090 and 3080 Ti). 20 Core GPU with up to 64 Gb memory in such a small low power unit is highly attractive. But I’d certainly like to see more real world testing with these machines - especially how they currently compare with RTX 4090.
