randomwalk SSS + displacement not working as expected?

Hello! Having lots of bugs or something with randomwalk + SSS. I'm hoping I can get this stuff working to be usable on a big project but am worried that I may be running into too many issues.

Image

left is just SSS, middle is SSS + vertex displacement, right is sss + vertex displacement + subdivisions which causes a weird faceting. this is not at all how i would expect this to look.

I also get the issue when not using displacement but just using render geometry properties and setting it to subdivide my mesh.

I also tried using regular displacement (not vertex) which gives even worse results. Plus, I believe this doesn't work with motion blur anyway, so even if it did work it wouldn't work for what i need.

Any idea what's going on here? This doesn't seem to be making any sense to me.

All of my SSS / displacement related issues seem to work fine in regular houdini. I believe this issue is solaris specific.

Hi Tokyomegaplex,

Thank you so much for reporting this.
we are assuming the issue is related to this (viewtopic.php?p=410563#p410563) and we are currently investigating it.

cheers

Hi Tokyomegaplex,

The facetting may be related to the scene scale.
Would you please let us know how it was exported or is it possible to PM me the character head as .hip file?

As far as we are aware the Motion blur should work as expected for both transform and vertex animation!
Just make sure to add a Camera and control the Shutter from the sampling tab.

cheers
Kind Regards
