RNDR reliability

So far my experience with RNDR has been:

1. Rendered one 4k image that i wasn't able to download. That got resolved but it was too late so i just wasted money.
2. Rendered a sequence, downloaded it, only to find out that there is a bug in the files and i can't import them, as it says they are not image files. So wasted money again.
This happened last night and support hasn't answered yet.

What's the point of using RNDR and how can i rely on it if every single time there is gonna be some issue and i won't be able to get the files in time?

That’s crazy luck you’ve been having! I’ve been using it for about a year with ~30 jobs submitted and only have had one failure. If you don’t mind me asking what DCC (and version) are you using? As well as what version of Octane? I’m sure you know this but checking the file in standalone is essential before uploading to the network.

I also could not get the result on RNDR today - the render went into an endless loop - as soon as it reaches 100% it immediately starts again and again etc.

Hi,

For the loop, I got it when Cryptomatte Instance was activated. It comes with the 2021.1.1 octane version. 2021.1 was ok.
But no money lost as it considered it failed.

I use it lightly but never had problem when it succed.

I use Standalone(2021.1) whenever i plan on sending it to RNDR, just to be sure that everything works fine.

I know this is gonna get resolved but waiting 1-2 days for support to answer and resolve the issue defeats the whole purpose of using RNDR, i could just render it on my machine, which i did in both cases.

While the crypto instance bug isn’t the fault of the RNDR network I’m very surprised Otoy released a core version with such a major bug. It’s not worth using at all since that’s such a popular and crucial AOV

Just a quick update. Support said it was a rare bug on their side and they are fixing it but it will take some time.
