Render to Texture > Create New not working

I click on "Render to Texture" > Create New and nothing happens after I create a new file.
Looking at the file it creates, it looks odd.... filename.png,exr

I can't add that file as a RenderTexture to that box and I get an:

InvalidCastException: Specified cast is not valid.

When I try just making a RenderTexture and applying it to the "Render To Texture" Main.
