Thanks Beppe!

I hope I've done this right, because if so my result is pretty awesome :) 11 seconds!

Let me know if I did this right and/or if you want me to do anything else.

Trying to export orbx in blender also crashes the server if there's a material assigned.

I get the same result with a Radeon VII combined with a 5700XT. I think I know what my next buy will be.

Unfortunately I have tried with an AMD Radeon 6700 12GB, but it is not supported yet:

About OctaneBench, it doesn't support Metal GPUs for now, we need to wait for stable 2021 SDK, to have both CUDA and Metal support, later this year.

To have an idea of the performance, please download and install Standalone PR11, or OctaneX from Apple Store.
Then download the following .orbx scene, open it with Standalone, select the Render Target PT node to start rendering, and at the end, please share a complete screenshot of the result:

I will add it in this graph for a comparison:

@ lw2121: yes correct, OctaneX is still based on 2020.1.5 SDK, so new nodes added in 2020.2 are not currently available.
For removing the tile effect, you can use the OSL node in this .orbx file:
no-tile.orbx

@QuentinMerabet: yes, OctaneX has stil issues with Intel GPU and material preview.
Please try to go to Live View menu Options, and disable both Materials, and OpenGL preview options.

@TheBloke: Wow, great result :D
Here is the updated graph:

If someone with 6800, or 6800XT could do the same test it would be very appreciated!

ciao Beppe

OK, the PR11 download files for Blender have been updated. However, the new PR11 versions of Octane Blender and Octane Server also do not really work. The moment you try to render a mesh with an Octane Shader (either in viewport or as final render) the Octane Server crashes. Using the PR11 Octane Server with the PR8 version of Blender does however work.

This is really, really frustrating :cry: Could you please look into this, please?

Thanks Beppe! I'm very pleased. Thanks for all the hard work you guys have put in. Hopefully one day I will get a chance to use Octane X properly. If you guys still hope to eventually make a Blackmagic Fusion plugin, then I would be using it every day for sure :)

One final question: in your result graph there is a NVidia 2070 Super, which I assume must be in Windows on CUDA. Are you able to get a NVidia 3080 CUDA test for the graph? I would love to see how the 6900XT on Metal compares to 3080 on CUDA.

Here are some extras for you with a 6800XT, then with 5700XT & 6900XT combinations just for fun:
6800XT and 6900XT are connected via eGPUs, the 5700XT is internal.

6800XT = 12 seconds (egpu)
Image

6900XT = 11 seconds (egpu)

6800XT (egpu) with 5700XT (internal GPU) = 9 seconds
Image

6900XT (egpu) with 5700XT (internal GPU) = 8 seconds
Image

6800XT (egpu) with 6900XT (egpu) = 6 seconds

@TheBloke. You are welcome :D
About RTX 30X0 results, sorry, they are almost unobtainable here in Italy, we need to wait for an user to do the test.

@m0dm0d: wow, big thanks for the multiple tests, and fantastic result from 6800 :shock: I have added it in the graph:
