I'm getting the same crash while rendering animation at only 1920 x 1080, I've also gotten it while moving around in the real time viewport. I Was rendering volumetrics with no geometry outside of a single geometric plane in the scene.
Specs:
Os Win 10
3x GTX 980 onboard, 3x GTX networked
Nvidia Driver 417.01
Octane v4/Blender 16.3
