16.2.2 Linux denoiser issue

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to denoise my render but I'm just getting a blank image. I have the render passes enabled and the denoiser pass set to beauty. I also have enable denoising and denoise on completion selected in the camera settings. Is there something else that I need to set? Thanks,

Jason

Did some more testing, It looks like none of the render passes work, I enabled diffuse and it too is blank.

More testing, I enabled the "enable denoise" setting on the n panel and I'm getting passes now, but they are still not right. I enabled the diffuse pass, which works now, but the denoise pass is just a copy of it.

Hi grimm,

Thanks for your posts.

To use denoise, please ensure you have enabled camera imager and denoise.
For preview render(CTRL+Z): "3D View - Octane Camera Imager - Spectral AI Denoiser - Enable Denoisiing".
For final render(F12) or border mode preview: "Camera Object - Properties - Data - Octane Camera Imager(Render Mode) - Spectral AI Denoiser - Enable Denoisiing".

Please check the number of denoise sample to make sure denoise is done successfully.

PS: In 16.2.2, denoise volume is not supported. It will be done in 16.2.3.

Cheers,
DrawFun

Hi Drawfun,

Thanks, but I have all of those settings set and still no denoise. Here is how I have the options set:

denoise-1.png

denoise-4.png

I then do a F12 render:

denoise-2.png

You can see that the pass menu is set to "combined", if I change that to "OctDenoiserBeauty" I get this:

denoise-3.png

I must be missing something somewhere?

Hi Drawfun, grimm, the samples at first position marked in your example image never change, it always stay at 0.
May easiest way is to upload a small example .blend with a correct setup.

Cheers, mib

Hi grimm,

It seems that denoise is still running as denoise is processed at the last stage of render. Could you please check it again at 16.2.4?

Thanks Drawfun, it's working better, but still not quite right. If you have the "Display" in the "Render" properties set to "Image Editor" it appears to work fine. If you have the display set to "New Window" it doesn't work and either just gives you a copy of the beauty pass or a blank white image. I tested this with the other denoising passes as well. Also the denoise is very slow, the render finished in about 27 seconds, the denoise pass in about 1 min and 45 seconds.

Setting display to "Full Screen" and "Keep UI" works, just the "New Window" fails which is the setting I like best.

Hi grimm,

I've tested "New Window" setting under linux but failed to reproduce this case.
Changing the "Display" option to "New Window", then render. Did I miss something important?

Thanks Drawfun for looking into this, I'm not sure where the issue is? I just did more tests and it appears to work fine with newer blend files. The scene with the spider is fairly old and It has these issues. When I tested the spider scene again, the first render displayed an image for the denoise channel but it was just a copy of the combined image. I did several other renders and the denoise image was just a solid white.

I also saved the scene and reloaded it, but it still has the same issue.
