Issues with template start-up files

Just installed 2020.2_2.34 and having an issue with template start-up files.

If I switch to a different template, such as Sculpting, Octane Render no longer shows up as a rendering option. Opening another default template (General, VFX, 2D Animation) still prevents Octane Render from showing as an option. However, preferences clearly shows the plugin is enabled. I can only get access to the Octane Render option by closing Blender and restarting.

I have come across this issue once before in an older build. This time though the problem also seems to be preventing me from making an Octane start-up template. I created the Octane template the way I always have previously (configuring my Octane set-up windows and saving the startup.blend file over a copy of one of the other templates in a folder named Octane). When I open this new Octane start-up template I get the following error: “engine ‘octane’ not available for ‘Scene’ (an add-on may need to be installed or enabled). But of course when I check preferences Octane is already enabled. Restarting Blender returns access to the Octane render engine - until I try to load a one of the other start-up templates.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I suspect that something has changed from when you first created the templates. You might have to re-create them to get it to work again.

Nothing changed on my end except installing the new 2020.2_23.4 version. In fact I am on a brand new machine and the only other version I had on it thus far I think was the previous 2020.2_23.1 and never even created an Octane template for that version. However, that previous version which I still have installed dose not exhibit either of my problems with 2020.2_23.4.

Not only can I seamlessly switch between the Blender templates and have Octane render show up as a render option, but I am also able to create a specific Octane template that works. It is only the latest version that is spitting out the errors. I even uninstalled and re-installed it but problem persists.

Yeah, sounds like a bug to me. Mostly I was thinking it would be a change in Blender itself, but this does not appear to be the case. I would test for you, but 23.4 crashes instantly in Linux when I turn on rendering. :(

Wow that is a much more serious problem. Wonder if this latest release is truly ready for prime time - though my issue thus far is the only one I have experienced in my limited usage with it.

"Why so serious?", someone would say.
We'll look into that. Right now just start with the General Template and switch to any workspace. It will work perfectly.

Yes General is the default. It is just nice when starting a lot of test files to be able to quickly jump right to the Octane settings I need to adjust.
