OctaneRender™ for Blender plugin. Windows version only. The download links, provided on this page, are for Enterprise License Holders.

OctaneRender Studio subscribers can access their software from the "Downloads" section of their Customer Account Page.

This is a TEST version, so be prepared to have some issues. Do not use it for production.

Note: OSX and Linux builds will be provided soon. The links for these builds will be updated on this Release Post.

NEW FEATURES SINCE LAST RELEASE

  • Updated to Blender 2.82a
  • Updated to 2020.1.RC2
    • Added opacity in ShadowCatcher material
    • Added sun intensity in Planetary Environment
  • Added a specific Octane node menu generator
    • Only show the compatible nodes for current socket
    • Refactored output sockets of all graph nodes according to their output type
  • Supported Camera Data Node("Shader Node Editor - Input - Camera Node")
    • "Octane View Vector": A Camera space vector from the camera to the shading point
    • "Octane View Z Depth": Z Depth = How far away each pixel is from the camera. Octane View Z Depth(OctZDepth) = Z Depth / Max Z-Depth. Besides, it is a Color format - [OctZDepth, OctZDepth, OctZDepth]. Please tune the "Max Z-Depth" value according to the scene
    • "Octane View Distance": View Distance = Distance from the camera to the shading point. Octane View Distance(OctVDis) = Z Depth / Max Z-Depth. Besides, it is a Color format - [OctVDis, OctVDis, OctVDis]. Please tune the "Max Distance" value according to the scene
    • "Octane Front Projection", the front projection feature that can be used for environment and objects.
    • "Keep Front Projection" means whether the front projection should be updated along with the camera transform updating. With "Keep Front Projection" on, the image will be front projected all the time. With "Keep Front Projection" off, the image will be front projected only when rendering starts. This is useful when you want to create a scene with a front projected image and some camera movement.
  • Added offset transform settings(Object Data Properties - Octane properties - Octane offset transform)(would be useful for transform adjustment for orbx proxy and external vdb)
  • Upgraded octane output(Properties-Output-Octane Output)
    • Support to save separate passes among frames
    • Support to specify your own tags
    • Use the same file format as defined in the Blender Output Path
    • Support to customize by # tags. as default, it is 4 digits' frame number(0000, 0001, ... , 0100)
    • Save Octane outputs in final render(both static image and animation)
  • Added subsampling mode(Properties-Render properties-Octane Server)
  • Complete Principled BSDF to Universal Material converter
    • BRDF now is set to GGX
    • Support to convert Coating, Transmission, and Emission
    • Once the material is converted, replace all the same materials in the scene
  • Added Octane Mesh Type Settings for lights
    • Force to update light transforms if the light object is tagged as Movable
    • Added Octane Mesh Type Settings for Metaballs
    • Now octane object/mesh type resolver can recognize Metaballs and tag them as Reshapable in the Smart Auto Mode

FIXES SINCE LAST RELEASE

  • Bug fixes
  • Added Octane Viewport Window
  • Set Round Edge mode to Accurate as default
  • Set Material Smooth as True
  • Fixed empty beauty pass issue
  • Fixed volume scale update issue
  • Fixed round edge node unlink issue
  • Fixed enum value update issue in OSL nodes
  • Fixed crash when toggling object visibility
  • Showed the net GPU information on the status bar
  • Fixed final render issue when both keep environment and alpha channel are on
  • Fixed the Octane VDB sequence update issue
  • Fixed infinite plane rotation error in preview mode
  • Show osl compile error message on the console. Trigger osl node update when osl node is refreshed
  • Disable motion blur in preview rendering(due to the current blender doesn't support that)
  • Supported to show/hide outputs according to the node target
  • Supported to use position value for Gradient Texture
  • Hid the color space settings for Octane image nodes
  • Renamed Compare Texture sockets

KNOWN ISSUES

  • There are two issues under the experimental RTX acceleration with the latest drivers. As workarounds, please stick to older versions as long as RTX is supported. Besides, A fix for it is coming soon.
    • IPR hangs when toggling isolation mode
    • Mislinking between materials and objects

You can read about new features of OctaneRender™ 2020.1.RC2 here:
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=74112

The installation consists from two parts:
1. OctaneRender™ Server
2. Blender - OctaneRender™ edition

After starting OctaneServer it will take some time before the LiveDB tree and LiveDB material previews will be available from Blender - as OctaneServer caches the LiveDB data from remote server right after starting. But only the materials groups tree will be re-cached every time after server start, LiveDB material preview images will be cached only once - so only the very first OctaneServer start will need some more time before LiveDB tree will be available in Blender.
After the server is run - you can start rendering (or open a rendered view) from inside Blender.

Please note, in regards to Bug Reporting:

- Bug Reports in this section refer to plugin-specific bugs only. Bugs originating from the Octane Standalone should be reported to the Standalone Forum section instead

- For faster troubleshooting, please provide as much information as possible. Please include:
  • Your Hardware specifications (unless they are included in your signature)
  • A clear description of the issue you have found
  • Steps that you took to trigger this bug, so that we can reproduce it (ideally, please also provide screenshots. If possible, files for testing would also be appreciated).
  • Whenever possible, please confirm that this issue is only happening in the plugin, and not also in the Standalone Edition (if the bug occurs in both, it is likely that this issue should be reported in the OctaneRender Standalone section of the Forums).

- Please bear in mind - we are primarily an English-Language Forum. Please do not take offense if we request further clarification due to language differences.

Two recommendations:

- RTX may create issues with material linking right now, especially with newest drivers. This is a core issue and will be solved soon. Meanwhile, my advice is to turn off RTX for now.

- FInal render will not show Denoising if we're using the Denoiser Beauty as Preview pass. Just remember to set the Preview Pass to Combined before starting the final render.
This will also be solved in the next build.

We're in the process of adding some very important features that will greatly improve the productivity of Octane for Blender.

One of those is integrating most of Octane Standalone IPR window (now available in this version, you can open it from the Device Settings) functions in the Blender preview window.

Most importantly, we're looking into implementing the same mesh/texture caching system we can find in Standalone in one of the next builds.

This means we will not have to wait for scene data to be transfered to the GPU memory each time we start a preview or a render, since data will be kept there.

For very complex scenes this really makes a huge difference.

Please report any issue you may find here. Especially with this build and the upcoming ones, Octane for Blender is really getting better and better!

Thanks!

Another very useful new node is coming in the next build! I can't wait to show it.
