any hits how to set it up correctly
or maybe it isn't implemented yet?

It's a texture used for AO look:
AO Ambient Texture - Specifies an Ambient Occlusion texture, which is used for the AO calculation instead of the environment. If AO Ambient Texture is disabled, the environment is used instead. This gets rid of the blue tint on white walls caused by the blue sky (like Octane Day Light).

I know what it is, I wonder why I couldn't get it to work
it seems broken for me but maybe I am doing something wrong?

You are not doing it wrong. The feature is broken in Blender since it was introduced there. Looks like nobody cares as nobody has ever tried to use or test it.

You can get the exact same result using a Texture Environment. The AO Ambient Texture option is a potential different way to do it, but it doesn't make much sense since the Texture Environment option gives more possibilities (like being able to orient the texture or change the intensity as needed, for example).

Is it possible to not use your version of Blender?

@linograndiotoy

nah, not really, actually not even close
it's not env texture, it is different tex which is used for ambient occlusion to help get rid of excessive color tinting in the shadows
read what J.C. wrote, there is quote from manual

Today i almost became crazy to try to make the denoiser work.
Then i discovered that if you use the denoiser beauty pass as preview, it doesnt work in regular render.
So if i want render i need to change the preview to combined pass and switch the viewport view to solid or wireframe... then i can press f12.
Is there any workaround to have the denoised preview and the denoised render? And maybe to change viewport mode automatically when i press f12?

by the way i'm a beginner, but octane looks really good.

Hi there,

im on OSX and i got a question about the install procedure. On this page it is stated that OSX doesnt like multiple copies of Blender. I wonder how come i can run multiple copies at the same time without any issues. Is this perhaps because of this special build? I can actually run 2 instances of other apps as well.

I also would like to know why this needs a special build. Is this faster than running a server app aside of it? Currently i use a different renderer for Blender which has a server app and loads in the images. It can even do Interactive renders in the 3dviewport as well as render border renders. I dont have a proper GPU so its CPU only for me but that still works quite welll. I dont need a special build. I think not needing special build is easier for a user. BUt perhaps there is a reason for that.

Hope you can answer my quesstions

Regards

PS im also a bit confused about this line

Unlike other plugins, Octane for Blender does not have an ‘add-on’ for the standard Blender installation from Blender.org.

But i see it is an addon but this build basically has it enabled as default. Is that because its not a standalone app? TO my understanding, this server app is basically the app, so its is standalone? Or am i confused?
