We've just released 20.1, with blender 2.8 and octane 2019.1 RC3. This version includes OctaneDB feature and dozens of bug fixes. Looking forward to your feedback about it.

Known issues:
- OSX/Linux versions are not supported yet
- The motion blur feature is during development
- The backward-compatibility issue of environment and volume nodes

We plan to get these three issues fixed in the coming 20.2 versions.

Here are the changes from the last build(20.0),
- merge Blender 2.8
- support OctaneDB(both LiveDB and LocalDB)
    - support to fetch OctaneDB without a selected object(a new material will be created)
- support new license activation system
    - support to grab octane api mode only when the blender is open
    - support to release octane api mode automatically after blender is closed
    - add "release_octane_license_after_exiting" checkbox in user preference(octane license will be released after Blender is close, which would be helpful if you use Octane across multiple machines)
    - move octane server address setting to user preference
    - complete error message when server port is occupied
    - complete activation status in windows taskbar tip
    - do not enable network rendering automatically
- support Eevee/Cycles and GPU feature in Cycles
    - add missing Eevee/Cycles nodes
- fix incompatible socket type issue
    - use color type for texture node output
    - use vector type for round edge output
    - hide cycles output sockets when octane is used
- complete missing blender functional nodes(e.g. group) in the node editor
    - support reroute node
    - support to group OSL nodes
- support default environment(a black one without lights) when there are no environment nodes connected
- set up Windows build pipeline for all versions
    - build setup packages as the final release
- other fixes
    - add thin wall in universal material and specular material
    - change transmission to RGB type in universal material
    - support to customize "default material"
    - add Octane postprocessor Override in 3d view panel
    - use checkbox for Octane postprocessor checkbox
    - fix the issues when multiple render tasks are created
    - make Material Panel fold-able
    - hide look dev render option in octane(will be shown when it's supported)
    - add "prefer tonemap" checkbox in render setting

Hey everyone. This is looking incredible.

Few things I've noticed from my experiments with the latest build (30/08. I'm on a GTX 1060):

Bugs:
1. The perspective correction seems to not be working.
2. On postprocessing, bloom does not work for some of my scenes - no apparent reason for this.
3. Area light only works after switching to solid mode and then back to render preview on viewport shading.

Questions/Requests:
1. I'm a user of the standalone version and I'm missing the ability to lock the aspect ratio while scaling textures on objects/texture environment. It's a bit of a pain to adjust each of the axes individually. Any plans to add the lock feature to the viewport shader?
2. Related, when adding textures we need to add the projection and transform nodes manually. It would be nice if they were created automatically like in standalone.
3. Shader editor automatically updates the Octane Node Graph, but the opposite doesn't happen. As we can manipulate it directly it would be great if any changes made in the octane graph were synched with the shader editor. Right now, octane graph resets every time it is closed or we switch back to solid or wireframe mode in the viewport.

So I opened 2.79 file in 2.80 and got issue with collection instancing
I've made house, make collection of it and while original meshes and collection instance are in one scene everythings works fine
Image

But when I made new Scene inside my blend file and add my house instance then all my geometry is brokend while octane viewport render or f12 render, cycles render annd eevee works fine with this instance

Image

It's not just shading issue , many objects are rotated wrong way or dispositioned

Tested on the latest Octane Blender realese, and just checeked my other files are suffered from this issue too

Problem here with the Octane server prime

Octane in Blender is not connecting to the server.. and when i click on the server icon in the windows tray it disapear so i cannot configure or check if it is running.. In Blender the Octane plugin is configured to this server adress: 1270.0.1 but there is no server at this adress...

Well now it is working... i think it was firewall related.. i turn off all firewall protections and then start the octane server prime and voila it is working... then turn on the firewall and octane still working so i close blender, restart windows and now it is running fine except i need to start the server manually before launching Blender.

Definitely something that needs to be fixed in the next build. Please keep in mind that Octane for Blender 2.8 is in his experimental/alpha stage still.

Thanks for your report!

Can't file bug reports with prime license

Postby llennoco22 » Fri Sep 06, 2019 1:03 am

Having switched my license to prime since I mainly use Blender I am unable to post or file Bug reports in the Blender plug-in forums. Obviously there will be bugs in 2.8's early development however as someone that uses it daily I frequently encounter bugs that hold up my workflow and am unable to bring attention to them. Is there any chance of getting a prime license forum or any support?

Most frustrating bug for now is that once the universal node has an albedo input, emissions only affect metallics if transmission doesn't have a value (v20.1)
