Almost every-time after working for a while on a scene, the gamma attribute and [b]Response curve [/b ]stops working.
In stable builds restart used to fix this issue, in recent alpha (3.05.3 - 9.40) nothing helps, gamma and responsecurve produce 0 change.

A. Windows 10
B. Graphics Card(s) models: 2xK6000, 1xM6000
C. RAM Capacity: 128GB
D. Nvidia driver version: 376.62, and other system has been experiencing same issue M5000 - 376.33
E. OctaneRender Standalone version, if installed: 3.05
F. OctaneRender plugin version 3.05.3 - 9.40
G. Maya 2015 ext1 SP6 and 2017 Update 2 had exact same issue.

Could it be that you changed your image format to something with 16 inside like for example iff16 or Tiff16 ?
(this is the Octane plugin weird way to enable EXR rendering and linear workflow)

When you do this change the plugin switch the renderview to linear mode, and Octane tonemapping is disabled.
this mode is handy if you prefer to work with Maya color management widgets,
also you can still have Octane tonemapping in the renderview if you enable "tonemap hdr" in render settings:

(but don't forget to disable it for linear worflow/final rendering )

Yes I know this is the less intuitive workflow ever .... some leftover from the quick and dirty initial implementation of the plugin.
