Otoy® is proud to announce the availability of a new OctaneRender™ for Maya® Version 2020.1
The world's fastest and most feature-rich unbiased render engine that integrates completely into Autodesk® Maya®.

Maya® Version Requirements

This release will work with Maya® Versions 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 64-bit on Windows, Linux and OSX operating systems.

To use this version, you need a GPU of compute model 3.0 or higher. Support for Fermi GPUs (like GTX 4xx and 5xx) has been dropped. Also make sure you use a driver of version 419.17 or higher and if you are working on Mac OS that have a CUDA driver installed that supports at least CUDA 9.1.

Changes since version 17.26:

  • Integrated the 2020.1.5 engine.
  • Fully refactored material conversion system. Better support of some of Maya, Redshift, Arnold and VRay nodes implemented.


Make sure to use a NVIDIA Studio driver with version at least 451 on Windows or 450 on Linux to use this version. No driver updates are required for macOS.

I haven't downloaded this version yet, but will we ever get Attribute Spreadsheet control over items like Specular, Roughness etc? Right now there's no way to select all shaders in the scenes and modify all specular intensities across them.

EDIT:
Besides having to add float texture nodes to these channels, is there any way we can modify these attributes on multiple shaders with the attribute spreadsheet?

Im having problem to export orbx in maya. it always worked ok but now in the last version it´s not working

2- Looks like orbx made with 2020.1.5 dont open in version 2020.1.4

3- meshs export ok, I can open in octane standalone but interactive xgen hair no.

Hi Jim,

One request which is pending from a lot version of plugs basically IES files is just unworkable with Octane lights is really buggy on big scenes with a lot IES changing power we get weird flip and random rotation on ipr or when rendering.

Basically just lighting work is dead we always use proxy to have better and consistent control.

The preview is something doesn't bother me but the result is not stable at all on any version of plug.

You can see by yourself create 1 or two lights plug IES and adjust power, efficiency or rotation the light just start randomly turn.

Hope we could have a fix on that.

Yes for xgen/ornatrix need export in animation with alembic ( I know the fact we need export animation for the alembic and see the hair)

The best would be just add to orbx scene as usually obj but hair automatic add alembic so we can have on the normal export aswell.

It's a first time I'm hearing it from anybody.
I will try to reproduce it later, currently I'm very busy with 2020.2 integration...
- Does it happen with any IES file, or with some specific ones?
- Do you use the "File" attribute directly in the light node, or indirectly - connecting the emitter-material to the light node with IES image-textures in it?
- Every little detail may matter for being able to reproduce your issue, so it would be best if you just create a simple scene where it is reproduceable on your side and post it here.

Noticed that this version is constantly trying to update the geometry when I haven't made any changes to the scene. If I select a shading node it begins translation, disconnect/connect shading nodes it begins translation....SUPER aggravating as previous versions didn't do this.

Just quickly tried it - can't reproduce. All works OK on my side.
It would be be helpful if you gave me the scene where this happens for you, together with explanation of what exactly should I select or connect/disconnect to reproduce this issue...

One thing to spot on the error just create one light and then duplicate like 10 lights soon you tweek then on channel box they are going crazy rotating and giving inaccurate results you can specially see with a lot lights.
