!!! THIS IS THE BETA VERSION OF OctaneRender PLUGIN, IT IS RELEASED FOR INITIAL BUG HUNTING ONLY !!!
!!! PLEASE DON'T USE IT FOR PRODUCTION & DON'T SAVE THE SCENES FROM THIS BETA VERSION FOR FUTURE USE AS THERE ARE HIGH CHANCES TO LOSE THEM !!!
!!! SCENES SAVED IN THIS BETA VERSION ARE NOT GUARANTEED TO WORK IN SUBSEQUENT VERSIONS !!!
!!! THE RENDER ENGINE IS YET TO BE STABLE, SOME CRASHES & BUGS ARE EXPECTED FOR THIS TEST VERSION OF THE PLUGIN !!!

Otoy® is proud to announce the availability of a new test version of OctaneRender™ for Maya® Version 2019.2
The world's fastest and most feature-rich unbiased render engine that integrates completely into Autodesk® Maya®.

Maya® Version Requirements

This release will work with Maya® Versions 2016.5, 2017, 2018 and 2019 64-bit on Windows, Linux and OSX operating systems.

To use this version, you need a GPU of compute model 3.0 or higher. Support for Fermi GPUs (like GTX 4xx and 5xx) has been dropped. Also make sure you use a driver of version 387 or higher and if you are working on Mac OS that have a CUDA driver installed that supports at least CUDA 9.1.

Changelog and the installers for Octane Standalone 2019.2 are here:
OctaneRender Standalone 2019.2

Changes since versions 16.0:

  • Implemented a flexible global settings mechanizm: now you can either store some settings (including active GPUs and some other settings) as scene-specific or common to all Maya scenes. See the new "Scene-specific settings" checkbox in Octane globals. The settings' blocks affected will have different background colors, depending on where they are stored.
  • Implemented the interactive sequence-rendering ("Render/Render Sequence" menu item in the RenderView). The interactive render is not guaranteed to work properly on OSX due to incompatibility of Octane rendering engine's OSX architecture with Maya API requirements. The plugin has the workaround implemented to make that at least working, but the interactive rendering will be less efficient and slower on OSX than on other OSes.
  • Implemented Path Editor support for Octane nodes.
  • Implemented the workaround to prevent the non-stop rendering refresh while the Maya's 2019 timeline-caching system is building its cache.
  • Improved the "Random" mode of virtual materials.
  • Camera-mapped texture refresh issue fixed.
  • Fixed the "render selected" issue with instanced geometry.

KNOWN ISSUES:
  • The Octane SDK 2019.2 XB3 is only released for Windows, so - no other OSes supported by this plugin release.
  • "CUDA 700" and other CUDA errors are expected to happen from time to time: these are the Octane engine bugs. Should be fixed with later SDK/Standalone versions...
  • Due to some inconsistency on the rendering engine level the builtin-scriptgraph nodes are not going to be present in the plugin. At least at this stage.

Finally ... thanks a lot for this, also in my opinion the mechanism to switch from user specific to scene-specific was not really needed,
as I can't think of any good reason why someone would need any of these settings to be scene-specific.

So, since 2019.2 is completely incompatible with 2019.1, is this plugin dead? Or it will resumed for 2020 release?
