Otoy® is proud to announce the availability of a new version of OctaneRender™ for Maya® Version 4
The world's fastest and most feature-rich unbiased render engine that integrates completely into Autodesk® Maya®.

Maya® Version Requirements

This release will work with Maya® Versions 2016, 2016.5, 2017 and 2018 64-bit on Windows, Linux and OSX operating systems.

License upgrade

Unless you have a subscription license, you will have to upgrade your version 3 licenses to version 4. This upgrade is free and can be done via these 4 steps:

  1. Go to https://home.otoy.com/render/octane-render/purchase/
  2. Select "Upgrade" in the top menu.
  3. Click on "UPGRADE NOW" next to "Upgrade existing licenses to OctaneRender 4".
  4. Select the licenses you want to upgrade and confirm.

To use this version, you need a GPU of compute model 3.0 or higher. Support for Fermi GPUs (like GTX 4xx and 5xx) has been dropped. Also make sure you use a driver of version 387 or higher and if you are working on Mac OS that have a CUDA driver installed that supports at least CUDA 9.1.

Changelog and the installers for Octane Standalone 4.02.1 are here:
OctaneRender Standalone 4.02.1

Please read the new features implemented from Octane Standalone 4 version our blog post.

Changes since version 13.30:

  • Implemented the workaround for Maya's bug, affected the time-warped animation of texture files.

Hi Jim,

Thank you very much for the fix, I was comparing with the 3.06 before the refractory was working much more faster. I feel on this version, soon we add key on texture sequences is getting really slow a huge lag to preview frames without have any ipr on or the octane viewport, usually it was faster while changing the frames, I'm trying to deactivate "use image sequence" to get speed back but doesn't changed. you can see on the scene I send to you.

Maybe need check a way to have this option "use image sequence" when is off it doesn't load on each frame the image because maya lag a lot due the loading.

Thanks for the quick fix.

Cheers,
JO

Even when no rendering is going on, with scene changes Octane generates (that means renders) on-the-fly the swatch-previews and viewport/UV textures that you observe in Maya UI even when there is no Octane render session running. Maya API is mostly single-threaded, so it is not always possible to do this in the background.
If you want to speedup the scene responsiveness - you can lower or better completely disable the generation of these textures (setting the "quality" to "0").

I've just had a talk with engine team regarding the highly inefficient material-preview generation functionality. They've confirmed that it's the functional part of the rendering engine that has not been improved yet (following all the other rendering-engine improvements in recent versions), but it definitely has some room to make it faster.
So, perhaps with some later versions of Octane engine you'll not have a need to disable the preview generation or at least just make it some lower quality...

This doesn't seem to always wok, not for sunsky node for example, any animated attribute in environment slow down Maya a lot whatever preview settings, this is quite unexpected as environment are not displayed in Maya viewport or UI...

Also Jo have a good point about swatch preview : why is it needed to disable swatch-preview on the octane side, when swatch preview are already disabled on the Maya side ?
If they are not even displayed/refreshed in Maya UI (disabled in attribute editor and node editor/hypershade) they should not be generated automatically in background slowing down Maya,
but only generated on demand (when clicking in the swatch preview square).

Hello

Sorry for bad english.

There was a problem with textures and reference system. If reference files are used in the scene, then when the scene is saved and loaded, the textures are not loaded, you have to reload textures or references.

Create Box and Texture

2.PNG
Open save scene

3.PNG
Click Reload
