This is a TEST version, so be prepared to have some issues. Don't use it for production.

COMPATIBILITY AND OCTANERENDER STANDALONE REQUIREMENT

To run OctaneRender™ for Maya®, you need to also have an activated OctaneRender™ Standalone copy activated on the machine you wish to install the plugin onto.
You cannot purchase and use only the Maya plugin and use it without also owning an activated copy of Octan eRender™ Standalone on your machine.

For network slave and daemon please download standalone installer here:

I was really not expecting this feature now, On the Fly baking of Maya texture,
I though we will wait for Octane 3.1 and use OSL equivalent of the Maya nodes instead of baking ;)
but to translate every Maya nodes to OSL will take a long time so this is welcome especially for Displacement with Maya procedurals.

This feature is nice but very very unstable, is it possible to have a separate branch for this feature while improving stability?
And to maintain a more stable branch based on 10.6 ?

I guess we will need to have access to more option:
32bit/16bit/8bits,
and have acces to the texture fill option or the filter option,
because as is, I have something wrong on the border of the baked texture, the border edge of the surface is not diplaced correctly.
(In my opinion it's not possible to have one setup for this settings working for every case ).

Also the refresh baking of Maya textures happen all the time not only when rendering, so this is problem.
this is very very nice to be able to adjust the Maya texture setting seeing the displacement in realtime in IPR.
But really this should not slow down Maya outside when IPR is off.
Also Maya 3d textures are not supported, and for animated texture if I change time Maya crash.
I had lot of other crash but not sure why.

ok, here is two Bugs I have isolated and which are currently a big issue in a current production of the Meindbender studio, needs urgent fixing.

BUG1
In the attached scene there is an alembic file referenced, but when loading the scene the alembic file doesn't load (see error message in script editor).
This kind of scene are produced by script in the current production but the bug only happen when the Octane plugin is loaded (all V3 version).
no problem with other renderer when Octane for Maya is uninstalled,
This bug doesn't happen with the Octane DEMO plugin.
So the fix is already in the last DEMO plugin.

the cube.abc is referenced in the Maya scene, let them both in the same folder

BUG2
I found that when two objects have the same UUID, Octane only render one of the object.
This case happen when you reference two times the same file in a Maya scene (this is very common practice, workflows can't be changed to get around the bug)
To reproduce this bug just reference two times the same file in a scene and you will see only one is rendered , if you hide the rendered object the second one will be rendered.
I know UUID are supposed to be unique but well this is Maya, not in this case.

As said in previous post it would be nicer to have bug fixed in a stable branch based on 10.6 or 9.41.

by the way here is a sample scene for some of Maya texture baking feature bugs,
this is using a Maya ocean texture in octane displacement,
just scrub the timeline Maya should crash.

if you can run IPR you can see the problem on border edges of the displaced surface (missing fill option I guess),
also obviously the texture is baked to 8 bit so makes stairs in displacement.
