Otoy® is proud to announce the availability of a new OctaneRender™ for Maya® Version 2020.2
The world's fastest and most feature-rich unbiased render engine that integrates completely into Autodesk® Maya®.

Maya® Version Requirements

This release will work with Maya® Versions 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022 64-bit on Windows and Linux systems.

Octane for Maya masterclass:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fANBzifhSow&list=PLTqdDmFtprFkzaBM7cmp8ZipQCNupDD0H

Changelog and the installers for Octane Standalone are here:
OctaneRender Standalone 2021.1.1

Changes since version 20.9:

  • Integrated the 2021.1.1 engine.
  • Implemented the support of C4D-noises texture.

Known issues:
You may experience some crashes when updating "mesh" nodes in "scatter-on-surface" mode. This is some Octane engine issue, not related to the plugin. Should become OK after gets fixed on the engine side...
Materials are not supported for instances in the new "geo scatter" functionality so far, I'll add this functionality in the next plugin release.

Thanks for the new version!
Question - Is it possible in the future to implement a wireframe rendering without dividing into triangles?

Thanks for the release
I imported an ORBX with a bunch of nodes that I spent some time developing in the standalone.

Cameras environemnts, kernel settings etc. When you click edit on the proxy the standalone node editor pops up which is great!

How does one "use" some of these nodes in the Maya Scene itself. For example can you copy a Path Tracing Kernel into Maya's Settings or use the camera ...

How do you get the "proxy" contents that you want into the render that Maya IPR for Octane sends off.

Thanks

Peter

Hi there,

Thanks for your feedback.
We would forward your request to our core team if this is possible in the future.
For now, please use the UV snapshot to render the quad wireframe.

cheers
Kind Regards

Hey Peter,

Thank you for testing the ORBX workflow.

The proxy content would render all the scene assets but it would draw just a Proxy box in the Maya hardware viewport to eliminate laggy when navigating.

Thanks BK3d
Works great! Many thanks

Because this creates extra kernels and cameras and environments etc... can you somehow replace the maya system kernels/environments settings etc with the proxys?

Or are only the Mesh and materials and related nodes used from the imported proxy.The node editor (proxy edit) shows the kernels and cams etc all there.

Thanks

Peter

No, for Maya scenes' "meta" nodes you can only use corresponding Maya-nodes (kernels, environments, etc). Proxy's can not be used instead of them.
In later versions I'll consider to investigate if it would be possible to extract these nodes from ORBXes being loaded, directly into new instances of these Maya "meta" nodes...

Bug/Error - Module Not Found

Postby metaphysique » Sun Jan 16, 2022 4:50 am

Updated my plugin to the latest tonight and I'm getting this error when activating the plugin.

// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2020/scripts/others/pluginWin.mel line 317: The specified module could not be found.
(OctanePlugin) //

line 317 of pluginWin.mel
Code: Select all
global proc loadPluginCmd( string $path )
{
    if(!`pluginInfo -q -loaded $path`)
    {
        catch(`loadPlugin $path`);
    }
}

Happens for me in both Naya2020 and Maya2022. Rolling back to previous installation restores functionality.

// UDPATE //

After rolling back Octane versions I installed the plugin for Maya 2022 by itself. Seems to have worked for 2022 - will check back after attempting an isolated install for 2020.

Any help would be appreciated.

Batch render not working - Info Channel Ambient occlusion
Writes:
// Rendering with Octane... //
// Percentage of rendering done: 0 (starting) //

And nothing happens.

It's not clear how to render Ambient occlusion.
Missing Passes settings.
