NOTE: The software in this forum thread is not 100% reliable, this is a development build and is meant for testing by experienced octane users. If you are a new octane user, we recommend to use the current stable release.

!!! THIS IS THE BETA VERSION OF OctaneRender PLUGIN, IT IS RELEASED FOR INITIAL BUG HUNTING ONLY !!!
!!! PLEASE DON'T USE IT FOR PRODUCTION & DON'T SAVE THE SCENES FROM THIS BETA VERSION FOR FUTURE USE AS THERE ARE HIGH CHANCES TO LOSE THEM !!!
!!! SCENES SAVED IN THIS BETA VERSION ARE NOT GUARANTEED TO WORK IN SUBSEQUENT VERSIONS !!!
!!! THE RENDER ENGINE IS YET TO BE STABLE, SOME CRASHES & BUGS ARE EXPECTED FOR THIS TEST VERSION OF THE PLUGIN !!!

Otoy® is proud to announce the availability of a new test version of OctaneRender™ for Maya®: OctaneRender™ 2021

This release will work with Maya® Versions 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022 64-bit on Windows, Linux and macOS operating systems.

Changelog and the installers for Octane Standalone 2021 are here:
OctaneRender Standalone 2021.1 RC2

Changes since 20.2:

  • Integrated the Octane 2021.1 RC2 engine.
  • Implemented the EXPERIMENTAL support of Bifrost. Some notes:
    - Simulated components (volume/SDF, particles, foam particles) are only enabled/rendered by Octane if the respective component's medium/material is connected in the "Octane" rollout of Bifrost node. This is different to Bifrost settings for other renderers: e.g. Octane uses Bifrost's "display" settings for the foam spheres' radius/size in both Maya viewport mode and in renderView. Bifrost uses the separate "render" settings part for renderers it supports by itself internally - these don't make sense for Octane, as in this case it is Octane who supports Bifrost internally, not vice-versa. So imitating an SDF-volume by a bunch of particles of different sizes is currently not supported, 'cause Octane renders the same geometry much better directly with its own SDF-volume capabilities or using Bifrost meshing. Let me know if some of you still needs this particles imitation for some reason...
    - Because Octane engine does not support (at least so far) dynamic differently-sized voxels (like Bifrost does), only one deepest level of Bifrost simulation will be rendered by Octane.
    - Bifrost API has a bug - because of it in some cases SDF or volume component is rendered in a wrong position (while foam/particles are always in correct positions). If this happens, the only way to workaround it is to disable this volume/SDF component (unconnect Octane medium/material from a volume) and enable Bifrost meshing. This will only work for SDF though, because the volume obviously can not be rendered as a mesh. I'm still trying to reach Bifrost developers to find some solution to this positioning API-bug...

Known issues:

  • The MacOS version of Octane SDK is still not available.
