All bug reports should include the information below, along with a detailed description of the issue and steps to reproduce it.
A. Operating System, including version (i.e. Win 7, OSX 10.11.2, Ubuntu 14.04, etc.)
B. Graphics Card(s) model (i.e. GTX 580 - 3GB, TITAN, etc.)
C. RAM Capacity (i.e. 6 GB)
D. Nvidia driver version (i.e. 7.50, 7.5.22)
E. OctaneRender Standalone version, if installed (i.e. 2.24.2, 2.23, etc.)
F. OctaneRender plugin version (i.e. v2.25 - 2.21)
G. Host application version, including build number if available (i.e. 3ds Max 2016 Build 18.0)

Crashes + SSS/Displacment/Denoiser problems

Hello, just tried 2020.2 and I got following problems :

1. Frequent crashing
*** OCTANE API MSG: CUDA error 700 on device 0: an illegal memory access was encountered
*** OCTANE API MSG: -> failed to vailt for event
*** OCTANE API MSG: path tracing kernel failed

It happens when I activate "Nested dielectrics", or when I change vertex displacement values, or without apparent reason.

2. Random Walk SSS gets black, not working when "Nested dielectrics" is enabled and if there's a Spectron Spotlight light in the scene.
3. Denoiser produces pink color glitches when "Denoise volumes" is enabled and if there's a Spectron Spotlight light in the scene, even with 0 scattering.
4. All vertex displacement is "blown", looks like a midpoint problem, I had to reduce it 10 times to make it look like in 2020.1.5.3

Could it be a driver version problem ? What is the last stable driver for Octane_2020.2.0.1_Houdini_18.5.408_vr_Win64 ?
I used 456.38 with Octane_2020.1.5.3_Houdini_18.5.408 with no problems but in 2020.2.0.1 rendering was slow with 456.38 and I updated to 460.89 and no got all these errors.

I switched back to 456.38 driver and now it crashes all the time when the denoiser kicks in. So it must be denoiser. However it's strange that before installing 460.89 the denoiser worked, then it crashed in 460.89 and now i'm back with 456.38 and now it crashes on 456.38 !
What can I do ?

Well now the denoiser is only crashing when my displacement mid level is different than 0.5 . Something is wrong with the displacement in this version ?

Yes, perhaps there are still some problems with the Octane 2020.2 core. Can you please send us a scene to reproduce the problem here? It could be great to try to export it to Standalone to send the scene to the core devs.

Hi, I can't send the scene now, but I compared with Standalone yesterday and here's what I've found :

HOUDINI : DISPLACEMENT vertex or image is not working well in the 2020.2 plugin for me. If I change the midlevel nothing happens, the render doesn't even refresh. If I stop the render, change the midlevel, restart it, it does not have any effect on displacement and the render crashes when denoiser kicks in. Tested even with simple objects and various displacement maps. And the displacement is "blown up" as if it had 0 as midlevel by default. So I think all my crashes are somehow related to the displacement problem but the crash happens at the moment denoiser kicks in. If there's no displacement, denoiser does not crash...

STANDALONE : Displacement works fine in Standalone 2020.2. I can change the midlevel no problem.

So it does not seem to be a core issue?

Could you please test to change the midlevel with displacement on your machine?

Ok. At least I've found the problem with the displacement. There is a critical bug in this release affecting all the nodes including pin names with underscores. This problem will be fixed in the next build that we want to release shortly.
