Hi,

This is a beta release of the OctaneRenderâ„¢ 2019.1 for Houdiniâ„¢ plugin compiled with the Octane 2019.1. RC3 core. This 2019.1.0.2 release is available for the Houdini 16.0/16.5/17.0/17.5 latest production builds on Windows x64, Linux gcc6.3.1 and OSX 10.12. This plugin is also compatible with Houdini Indie (While working inside the Indie version, the plugin will have a 4k limited resolution while rendering sequences and the scene export and cloud rendering features disabled)

To use Octane 2019.1, you need to have a Studio or Enterprise subscription license. We recommend that you upgrade your NVIDIA driver to version 419.17 or newer.

New features
To learn more about the new features and improvements of OctaneRender 2019.1, please check out the 2019.1 XB1 release post and the 2019.1 XB2 release post, but this a quick list of the main new features that have been added:

  • Improved volume AI Denoiser.
  • OSL and procedural vertex displacement and displacement mixer, including auto-bump shading.
  • OSL Shaders for volume textures.
  • Layered materials, including all the new material layers nodes.
  • Composite material node.
  • Universal material thin wall option.
  • New rounded edges, including the new round edges nodes replacing the old options available in the material nodes.
  • Bloom/glare threshold.
  • AI Up-sampler options in the imager node.
  • Increase maximum number of alpha intersections to 200. This fixes some scenes that have a huge amount of alpha maps.
  • Added the affect roughness option to kernel nodes "The percentage of roughness affecting subsequent layers' roughness"
  • Spectron volumetric spotlight

I exported the cloud points to LW, and recreate the scene, and I could export an orbx file from LW. And I open the scene in Octane Standalone, and the problem with the denoiser happens.

I am attaching the orbx file.

Thanks

Thanks for the scene. The Octane core devs will take a look at it from your post in the standalone forum.

Thanks,

Hi,

We have found an issue while working with this build related to a warning message while loading scenes including Octane lights. You can safely ignore this warning, and it will be fixed in the next build, but meanwhile, if you want to avoid the annoying message, you only need to replace the file included in the attached .zip file inside your plugin folder "otls" directory.

Thanks,
-Juanjo

Hey juanjgon,

Thanks for this build! I've been testing out the updated support for adding _sdf inputs to Vectron nodes. Seems to be working great! There's a little API MSG that pops up but not sure if that's my lazy Vectron code or a small bug? Either way it doesn't seem to be affecting the functionality. I've attached a HIP you can check out.

Was also wondering your thoughts currently or in the future regarding VDB support for Vectrons in the plugin? We've talked before about Octane standalone being able to load VDBs directly into Vectron nodes as an _sdf input, are there any limitations/significantly hurdles for that in Houdini? Obviously the holy grail here would be a way to reference Houdini VDB SOPs directly into Vectron nodes for some amazing render-time proceduralism. Failing that, being able to load in VDBs from file somehow to plug into a Vectron input in the /mat graph.

Thanks again for all your amazing work!

Ok not sure what the issue is. Anytime I try to attach a HIP it takes me to a CAPTCHA and then reset the attachment after completing it. Let me know if you need the HIP, could try again later.

I updated the light HDA that Juanjo posted, but I'm still having the warning message when I enter a material builder node. Also, got some nasty freezes when I went up and down into a material builder. I rolled back to RC2 and everything works fine.

i have a crash if I enter, exit then enter again a material builder node.

Which is annoying because since the new version of the 2019 is posted, I'm getting an "Can't authenticate the standalone Octane licence" error on the previous houdini version (Octane_2019.1.0.1_Houdini_Win64_studio).
So I switched to this newer version, but I'm constantly getting the crash that I mentioned before.

Any solutions for this?
