actually, the mis-spelling is correct I'm a bit of an idiot and my programs folder on my second hard drive is progams :oops:

Ah, sorry. Well, in this case perhaps the problem is that you are working with old drivers ... what NVIDIA drivers version do you have in your system? I think that you need at least the 419.xx version to work with the latest Octane builds.

I'm running 419.67 so I don't think its a driver issue. Houdini doesn't appear to be finding the new octane install, or able to reference any of the nodes or commands relating to Octane. Very confusing...

Hmm, weird. Can you please attach your full houdini.env file? With the right drivers I can't figure why Octane 4.01 works and the 4.04 build doesn't work ... You are working with Houdini 17.0.506, right?

Do you have the HOUDINI_DSO_ERROR=2 variable in your houdini.env file? With it, you should get an error if Houdini can't load the plugin.

Yeah here's my .env file, Houdini 17.0.506, and no error on a blank load, the errors start when I try to do anything octane related

I wonder if you have a copy of an old plugin version in your Houdini $HOME folder, something that can be breaking all the plugin installation. Installing any plugin in the $HOME folder is really a bad idea ...

Well, you always need to declare the plugin root path in the HOUDINI_PATH variable and the plugin bin path in the PATH variable. If you have two or more plugins, it is always better to declare all the paths in the same variable line to avoid problems.

But if you could see the Octane top menu or the shelf using your old houdini.env file without the HOUDINI_PATH variable for the Octane plugin, I think that you could have a copy of the plugin in the Houdini $HOME folder (usually your user Documents/houdini17.0 directory), something that can be a problem because you could be loading two copies of the plugin, or you could have side effects.

Please can we have the engine update please? 4.0.5 we need to update the workflow with Maya and Standalone, I guess you are planing that but is really important cause there it was a really import fix for standalone lua script side.
