I just start houdini and click the OctLight shelf button or add the "Octane_Light" node and it hangs houdini. No rendering no IPR just adding the node itself in a blank new scene causes the issue.

Something like that? Yes, it should work. And a full subnet with the OUT Material inside also should work.

I see I thought the workflow requires the use of Parameter export to do that, like in Kai's mantra 16 tutorial.

What a weird issue. Here, in my Linux workstation, it seems to work fine. Do you have any other problem with Octane in this machine? I mean, does the plugin work fine, with all the Octane VOP nodes available and so on?

Really I can't figure what could hang Houdini while adding the Octane light if the plugin is correctly installed and it is working fine. Anybody else has this problem?

Hmm maybe its our pipeline... I did launch Houdini outside the pipe to test against that but maybe there's still stuff in the way. Let me get with Jon on our end to see if we can test some more. This node would be amazing for the project were about to ramp up with a bunch of non Houdini/octane artists.
