Octane for Houdini - IPR

Hi Juanjo,

As a long time Cinema 4D user, I know and love the IPR/Render View that the Octane plugin offers there. All the information on the render in progress (especially time rendered vs. time remaining to complete and the GPU load/temperature read outs), the A/B comparison feature and being able to zoom in and out of the picture, to home in on problematic areas, are all really important features.

Having said that, I'm in the process of transitioning from C4D to Houdini and I've been playing around with Octane's plugin for Houdini for the last couple of days. I realised that the implementation of the IPR in Houdini is a bit cumbersome, especially since all of the above mentioned features seem to be missing. Not having them at my disposal slows down my workflow quite a bit.

I know you're a busy man and there might be more important fixes that need your attention, but an upgraded IPR would be really appreciated by me and I guess a lot of other users as well. Are there any updates on this development? Thanks for letting me know.

P.S.: Having the Octane ROP available in Houdini's Render View would be an awesome addition as well.

Hey Juanjo,

Apologies on the pan/zoom functionality in the IPR. After hunting around the forum, I realised that this is already possible with clicking and scrolling. Though I use a Wacom, so it's not as easy to mimic the behaviour of a mouse with a scroll wheel. Would it be possilbe to have the ALT+MMB pan / ALT+RMB zoom functionality inside Houdini mirrored in the IPR? That'd be great.

Hi,

I'm working in a whole new Qt5 based IPR window that will eventually replace the old and now obsolete OpenGL window in the midterm. Once I have this new IPR with the current functionality I'll think about adding some missing features, like that ones that you have reported in this topic.

Thanks,
-Juanjo

Thanks for the update Juanjo. That would be fabulous.

Any idea of when this will get implemented?

I'm working on it right now, but I don't have any ETA yet.

Thanks,
