Denoiser renders black frame

Hello,

I'm in PMC mode, rendering a 2000/1200 px png 16 bit file, 7000 sples.
black render with denoiser : 55 mn frame - without denoiser : correct image 20mn.
The render stays black if i check denoiser (and with or without denoise on completion checked) if denoiser is unchecked, the render is the image supposed to be rendered, except it's not denoised for sure.
Same goes for the IPR : problem with denoiser : i have to uncheck denoiser icon in order for the render to look correct (and not black).
(Used to render in pathtracing but for this doc PMC is better looking : this does not happen in pathtracing).

I have another pb with the defaults : everytime i launch a doc the Octane options has the console checked so i have to uncheck it everytime.

Hou 17.0.352 with Octane 4.01
win 10 - 3x gtx 1080TI + 1x gtx titanX
nvidia driver 417.35

Thank you,
++

Hi,

Sorry, the PMC kernel doesn't support the denoiser feature, so probably this is why you get a black denoised image.

Thank You JuanJgon,

Do you know if PMC denoiser is in the pipe for future release Octane 2018 ? 2019 ?

Is PMC a quasi Monte Carlo algo ?

Do you know where i can have further information regarding the PMC parameters :
- what is a good ray for example ? there is a ratio to determine between good rays and those that are not good / then i'm wondering what a bad ray looks like ?
- direct light balance : i'd like to know which type of scenario to give it a 0.1 default value vs those for 0.9 in different types of lightning with samples ratio to give then for direct indirect front and back lights (i know this is too much asking, but i try anyway ;) )

Thank you JuanJgon,
have a good one,

Hi,

I don't know if the PMC kernel is going to be compatible with the deoiser. I suppose that the training done to work with the Direct/PathTracing kernels doesn't work at all with the PMC algorithms.

You have more details about the PMC kenel in docs:
https://docs.otoy.com/StandaloneH_STA/S ... Kernel.htm

Thanks,
