Alembic and Motion Blur

Hi,

When I export via ROP Alembic node, I see a "Motion Blur" tab. However, if I import this Alembic file to Octane Standalone, it doesn't seem to have an impact on the MB feature in Octane. What does this "Shutter" mean? It doesn't seem to do anything in Octane.

Best wishes,
Thomas

Hi,

I'm not sure about how the Standalone works with animated alembic files, or alembic files with motion blur. The alembic ROP motion blur options can be related only to the SOP level mesh deformations motion blur.

If you have the Houdini plugin, you could try to export the scene as an .orbx file using the export options available in the Octane ROP.

Thanks,

Hi,

I really go nuts here :/

When it comes to the Houdini plugin, is it possible to import an ORBX file? And does motion blur work in Houdini? I usually work with Carrara, but motion blur of rotating objects - like car tires - aren't working in the Carrara plugin.

Best wishes,
Thomas

Hi,

Nope, sorry, the Houdini plugin can't render .orbx files, but it should render any kind of motion blur without problems, including the camera, object transformations, object deformations at SOP level, instances, particles, etc.

If you have problems with the motion blur in a scene, can you please send it to me to check it here?

Thansk,
-Juanjo

Hi,

It's not a Houdini Plugin problem, but a Carrara Plugin problem. But thank you though!

Best wishes,
Thomas
