hi again,
I just purchased a subscription to OctaneVR in hopes that it would replace Mantra in my current workflow using Houdini Indie. It is great so far, but I am having an issue with the resolution limits for square renders.
For the last six months I have been rendering out sequences in Indie using mantra at 1440x1440 pixels, the limit that Indie allows for rendering (2,073,600 pixels in total). But I just tried to re-render an old sequence in OctaneVR for comparison, but it wouldn't let me render at 1440x1440 px, and popped a dialog box saying it was beyond what is allowed by the Indie license. This is not true, Indie allows this res as I have been rendering at it for the last half year. The restriction is 2,073,600 total rendered pixels, which in 16x9 format is 1920x1080px and in 1:1 aspect ratio it is 1440x1440px. The 1080x1080 frames that I seem to be able to render with Octane amount to only 1,166,400 pixels, or 56% of what's actually allowed.
I am hoping you guys can confirm this and increase the pixel count for square images in the next update (actually you probably need to adjust how you calculate the limits for all non 16:9 resolutions, not just 1:1) , otherwise you are shortchanging some of your customers 46% of their allowed pixel (and I will have to go back to Mantra. )
Thanks for listening.
