How to render a crown splash

Hello,

I'm sort of stuck trying to understand why I can't see/render a simple crown splash from the shelf set. I've placed in all of my octane requirements for how I usually render geometry but not sure if I have to convert the simulation to geometry or not.

Can someone help point me in the right direction?

Also, I'm getting this message and have no idea what it refers to:

[10:10:27] mantra: Could not find VEX shader 'octane_vopnet' (either .vfl or .vex). Have no idea why this keeps popping up every time I moved in the scene.

Getting a little frustrated with this. It's much harder to grasp than I thought it would be.
:(

Houdini by default with the particle fluid mesh outputs the geo as a polygon soup. simply convert or change the polygon to to polygon and it should render.

I can attempt to help with the other issue if you drop your hip file.

Hi,

The mesh output of several simulations is done using polygon soups, that Octane can't render directly yet. You must add a Convert SOP node to convert these polygon soups to regular polygon meshes. Perhaps this is your problem, but if you want to share a sample scene, I can take a look at it here.

About the Mantra error message, this is the information that you get if you try to render with Mantra one of the Octane shaders, that, of course, Mantra can't understand. Do you have a Mantra ROP in this scene?

Thanks,

Thank you both for responding.

I'm having to rebuild that file again as it kept crashing on me when I was trying to remove the HDR lightstudio link.

I didn't have a Mantra ROP in the scene, unless the HDR Lightstudio menu had anything to do with it...you can choose either Mantra or Arnold.

I didn't find the Convert SOP but only a "Convert". Are there any specifics in that menu that I have to watch for?

Don't think i can upload a indie scene on the forums so have to send via email.

Appreciate your help!

Hi,

You can upload scenes to the forum if you compress them as a .zip or .rar file. Anyway you can also send them to me: [email protected]

The Convert SOP is the node that you can add at SOP level to convert the Houdini primitives formats, as you can see in the attached image.

Thanks,
-Juanjo

Thanks Juanjo! I think I got it to work (with help, of course!!!)

See image. I'll send you the file to see if there are better ways of handling.

Yes, the scene is right to me, at least from the Octane point of view. As you can see the key to render it with Octane is to add the convert SOP to convert the polygon soups to regular polygon meshes.

Thanks,
