Stick texture to curves

Hey juanjgon !

Is it possible to stick a texture to animated objects that are rendered in the "render" curve mode ?

If I use one of the noises for example with box mapping it sticks but if I use a texture with box mapping it does not?

Any idea why this happens ?

Thank you so much

regards

Chris

Usually to stick a texture to an object you should use an UV map, but if you are rendering curves I am not sure what kind of effect are you trying to get.

Can you please send me a sample scene to test it here?

Hey !

Yeah totally ! But somehow it won't read the uv's in curve mode !

here is the file :

Yes, I see ... the problem is that Octane doesn't full support UV mapping in the curves at point level, each curve only can have one UV map value for all the curve segments, so the UV map is useless in this object to map a texture on it.

The texture using the box projection in object space doesn't stick to the object because you are animating the object at SOP level. This is for Octane a deformation effect, so the texture applied in object space is not fixed to the geometry. If you animate the object at OBJ level (in this case your object translation), the texture is going to stick to the object without problems.

In sort: currently the Octane curves don't support UV mapping at point level, so you can't stick a texture in this kind of objects if you are animating deformations in the mesh (transformations at SOP level, for example). You can stick a texture using any projection in object space if you animate the object at OBJ level, animating the transformation parameters.

Hola Juanjo,

Hey!
You finally get a solution for that¿?
Thank you in advance. Love your work, huge fan :)

Nope sorry. Currently, we have the same limitation. The Octane curves don't support UV mapping at point level. There is a tool to manage a gradient along the curves length, but the full UV mapping is not possible. You can define a UV map, but only one for all the curve segments, at primitive level.

Thanks,
-Juanjo
