Building a Rendering Rig or Relying on ORC ?

Hi .

I've just recently started using Houdini and i'm thinking on using Octane as the renderer . ( I've been using Blender and Cycles up until now ) I'm starting a new short movie project and wanting to build a new workstation . After seeing some videos about Octane on YT , I'm torn apart between building a new setup ( 7 or 8 1080 Ti cards and a Xeon CPU ) or relying on ORC for the final render and building a decent enough rig for day to day work . The problem with building a powerful rig is just maintaining the thing , not being able to move the workstation without the fear of your life and just knowing that in 4-5 years it will be completely irrelevant ! On the other hand , they are insane amount of problems being reported on this forum about reliability of ORC . I know that for the majority of time , I'm not using 8 GPUs or anything near that , I just need 1 of those for test renders , and a powerful CPU for simulations .

I gladly welcome any advice on this matter . Thanks in advance .
