Release date?

Is there any news on when we can expect ORC, like actual dates? I think I'd rather have this working right now than V3 - It's getting really frustrating not having reasonably priced render farm options!

ORC will be an officially supported component of V3 once it launches, just as network rendering is now.

We will be exposing ORC integration to more users who want to test it during the V3 alpha and beta releases shortly.

ORC access will have a baseline subscription to cover core service overhead (e.g. scene storage, job monitoring/processing/versioning/publishing/sharing/collaboration system, network upload/download traffic) + additional credits/tokens connected to per GPU render usage/time.

Pricing for the usage tokens will be finalized when the following come online:

1) Availability of newer, high end cloud GPUs in quantity. This will provide the best possible value per render token spent by users.
2) save/resume rendering on ORC (currently being added to V3 - important for cost savings at scale)

Thank for the info, interesting. So is there any way we can get involved in testing ORC on upcoming alpha/beta releases - Will this pre-release ORC be limited to standalone use only or will it work on plugins like C4D?

I would absolutely know what sort of info you need to get involved with testing ORC. Is there a form, application, or email we should look for?

I would love to know as well. ORC is by far the most important thing coming up for us. I would love to see how it will fit into our pipeline so we can start thinking things through before its release.

If ORC is coming to v2.x does that mean the v2 stream will get save/resume as an ordinary function? Or will it be limited to save to Orc/resume from Orc?

To me it's pretty clear that that's no longer the case.
I doubt v2 will get any update, as they are fully focusing on releasing v3.

Goldorak wrote on Thu Sep 17, 2015 :
"We are aiming to have it integrated in 2.25. There will be a monthly fee to cover transfer and storage, with a baseline number of render minutes included. Beyond that you will be able to buy more GPU minutes in buckets as you need them. We added a cost estimator that gives you a GPU time/cost estimate before you choose to launch a render job.

We have added support for passes/layers, cube map videos and light fields."

and also:

"2.25 is not really much work, it is just tied to the billing being ready, same as the web site. 2.24 included all the functionality for ORC integration in SE/plug-ins. 2.25 just adds the UI to use it so you can login and connect to ORC from the app, and sync live changes with the cloud inside SE/plug-ins." :?

Maybe it would be good to hear some more from Goldorak on this subject? ;)

Nothing that Goldorak has promised about ORC has come true, I think he is a master at smoke and mirrors and i will be surprised if we see any change to that in the future.
