-set octane as renderer

Note that if you open Octane viewport, the chain renders fine, but using a single mesh (Primitives/Meshes/Voxels: 71640/2/0)

You may try to use Particles:
-in tyFlow001, Interfaces: Enable Particle Interface
-opening the viewport, we can see that smaller meshes are used: (Primitives/Meshes/Voxels: 71640/92/0)
(tyFlow_chainLinks_001_oct2.max)

Check the particle count and instance usage:
Open Octane object properties, right click on tyFlow001, select 'External plugin object info'
Note that Particle count is same as instance count (91), so there is no benefit in using particles, each particle is using a different mesh..

For this scene, it seems preferable to keep the Particle Interface disabled.
