Hi All ,
I posted on the C4D plugin sub forum but no replies ( http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=47750 ) so I ask you here maybe some of you could help me with my problem :
(I don't use the standalone Octane but only the Cinema4D plugin one , but I tested on both and same problem )
I've a character with a Mix material ( mix with a Difuse one with SSS + a 'specular' one (glossy ) ) . I use a dispacement effect too on the chest of my character ( so in the Mix mat , I turned on the Displ channel , using a B&W map ) .
Now when I render , I get bad SSS effect as you can see on the images below :
I'm wondering if Octane can work with SSS + Displ at the same time so ? maybe it's just a limitation and we don't have to use Displ ? ( it was for a client job , but I guess I'm going to switch to other renderer :S )
any idea ?
Displacement and SSS ?

not sure about your plugin but i've used the two together fine in maya plugin and it seems to work fine. I was just using last night on a cork material and had now issues as far as I could tell. No clue what's causing your issue but wanted to let you know that is should work.

. Someone helped me finally on the french cinema4D forum , and the problem was the overlapping uvs on the back area ( where my right and left uvs areas are overlapping .. I just unwrapped completly the front chest area to paint the displacement spot but was lazy to unwrapped all the back area .. so now all is unwrapped and the problem seems to be away ..
I don't like having to unwrap all the UVs to be able to make octane work with Disp + SSS (because sometimes we need to have Right and Left sides overlapping to paint only one side for some reasons ) , but at least here I can go on

ok so in fact I don't understand why it worked for a moment but after doing another correct unwrapping it doesn't work anymore at all , all the mesh start beeing too much 'glowing' as soon asI activate the displ channel .
So I give up with octane and switch to a more predictable render for this client job .
I hope we'll see a fix for the bad limitation .
