ok, now Z performs way better than expected - it's not so far from TitanBlacks at all!!! & if that's the case, at this price point Z offers a great overall value! The airflow (extra gap) surely helps for Blacks to perform better! Happy to see this build came to be that good =)

Hi Glimps,
Yes, I was surprised too about how close the 'Z' was to the 'BB' :o
If you really need 6gb and you cannot get your hands on 780 (6gB) the TitanZ is pretty good for 1500Euro!
Ofcourse it would have been awsome to have had 3x TitanZ (like gabrielefx suggested) instead of this config !!!
but then the temps/noise/investment would have been a total different story, and then I might (maybe I am wrong?) had to clockdown while now I can overclock if I really want to.
If I win the lottery after all I Always can ask two more TitanZ for Xmas
Anyway I have to say : "enjoy the silence' (Depeche Mode) :P ... I like it a lot having it this way... and yes.. I am very happy how this build came out. (the mobo is a great value of having the slots this way to be able and have space between the GPU's; TitanZ had to be on the bottom!)

I have added some numbers on the Benchmark thread, but here I like to compare TitanZ with the Black's
Octane 2.12.1 PT, Alpha shadows off (>1000 s/px):
path term power 0.3, coherent mode off: TitanZ: 15.58 ms/s versus 2x TitanB: 15.61 ms/s
path term power 1 , coherent mode on TitanZ: 28.59 ms/s versus 2x TitanB: 30.46 ms/s:

edited: power draw of PC (with mouse and keyboard) rendering with all 4 Titans is 838 kw/h

Rappet,
I may have missed this between the various threads but which manufacturer's Z did you get? And, if you din't mind, for what price?

Now I see :) about 1000 mhz on core and stock volts means that 4xTITANS Z on water at 1200mhz and stock volts (no more than 1.2V) = 10-11 titans black and temps around 40C and silence :) When prices of Z drops to 1k$...:)

Great build rappet!

Hi Smicha,

I posted my reply here, not to hijack the Benchmark, if you do not mind.
smicha wrote:@ Rappet: download msi afterburner - best soft to monitor your gpus (also temps for cpu). Go to settings, choose a desired card and watch the scores - see the screenshot.
Yes.. now I remember what I wanted to do.. thanx for the tip. I am already downloading ;)
smicha wrote:PS. Great results for Z - so I must overclock by about +200mhz to get on 2x780 what you have on Z. Just give my the core clock and if it is about 900mhx it means we have a pretty potential room for overclocking at stock volts. So please pass core clock.
I got @ 940-980mhz core (where can I see the mhz mem :?: )
smicha wrote:@ @Rappet - could you please check in nVidia panel settings if you have double precision off (shall be off by default).
Double precision is off. What does it do if I turn it on :?:
smicha wrote:So for now I am super happy with my Strix 780 6GB - for two I payed 900$ and got Z performance. But I am almost sure next build will be on 4xZs or even better cards - surely watercooled
Yeah.. I believe that.. I already had bought the Titan Blacks a little while ago not knowing enough (or not listeing enoug to you pro guys  )
Maybe I should got the 780 6gb when I could.. they are hard to get now. But I also wanted to go for full render power and just went for the Blacks...
One pro for the Titan over the 780(6gB) is that now I can call my new beast "Titan"

cheers,

Go to monitor tab - mark desired stats - see the screenshot.

DP on makes no difference for Octane - it uses only SP. But it's good to have this option when you want to use GPGPU :) http://www.mathworks.com/discovery/matlab-gpu.html

Look at this sexy waterblock :)

Hi Seeker,
The TitanZ is MSI. I did not purchase the TitanZ seperately,
but it was a temporarily offer of a Battlebox system just before they were gonna drop down the price of the TitanZ. The basic system was offered for 3.5K.. when calculating down (by downgrading the GPU in that basic system and subtract the regular price of that downgrade GPU) I paid appr 1300-1400 Euro. I got  for a second when I saw the dropdown in price of TitanZ after my purchase, but then I :D still had a good deal and I was planning a new machine anyway
