Don't switch the current critical projects to this major version, as you may need to re-tune the scene for them.

Changes since the 1.7 version
  • Fixed the Octane light On/Off - Visible/Invisible mess.
  • Implemented the gradient texture support for Octane DB. This fixed the crashes when importing the materials having gradient textures in them.
  • Added the missed "Smooth" parameter to gradient texture.
  • Materials imported from Octane DB now are named according to DB material name.
  • Added parallel processing to some parts of global meshes translation. Should be a little faster now...
  • Minor fixes and improvements...
Changes of the 1.7 version
  • New 2.23.2 engine.
  • New "Cube map" camera modes added: now you can render different faces of cube map separately.
  • Fixed the bug with saving the values of "alpha shadow" and "keep environment".
  • The OctaneProxy unit scale is now respected if inserted from the OctaneProxy-file saved from plugin version 1.7 or later.
Changes of the 1.6 version
  • Added stereo mode for panoramic camera.
  • Added "Lock camera" feature to Octane viewport.
  • Fixed Octane viewport background bug.
Changes of the 1.5 version
  • New 2.23.1 engine (see the standalone changelog).
  • Added the "Cube map" camera mode.
  • Fixed the Octane viewport crash bug (thanks to Pancir).
  • Fixed hair&fur bug (thanks to oguzbir).
  • Fixed Octane render settings dialog bug (double rollouts in some cases).
  • Added some lost textures to the Octane material DB.
  • The Octane viewport passes rendering now respects the settings of current pass if they are set in render elements.
  • 3ds Max versions prior to 2012 and 32-bit versions are no longer supported.
  • Minor fixes and improvements...

Hi Jim,
I'm not sure if this is bug rather a performance problem.
As you know there is a pause render button in the octane viewport.

I generally work on heavy scenes with high polygons and large textures.
I have 2 dedicated Titans for live render. And main display gpu is dedicated to system display only. Doesn't take part in render at all.

Pressing the pause button does seems like pausing the render. But there is no performance gain in max viewport while the live render is paused.
When I un-pause rendering does continue where it was left. ( ex. Paused at 50th sample. When unpaused starts from there.)

It's currently hard for me to debug this but I wonder if you can have a look at that codewise.

Thanks Jimstar, The Camera lock feature doesn't seem to do anything. The camera remains unlocked irrespective of whether its on or not.

Also, is there a chance you could look at the Random Color bug that changes every time a scene is loaded as an XREF scene.

Apart from that motion blur bug-like thing.

I was wondering if you're going to update MaX's Octane Camera to the stand alone's Thin lens camera properties.

There are missing values like:
Sensor witdth
Focal length
F-Stop (to drive aperture more easily)
Scale of view
And Perspective Correction.

I know many of these aren't new settings but they alter other settings accordingly.
Where Fstop drives aperture like Reallife camera like fstops
Where Scale of view zooms the image maintaining the perspective and DOF by adjusting other values at the same time.

I kinda like the use of them. Maybe you'll look into those in the next releases.
