Multiple materials on a same object

Hello,

I work with the Cinema 4D octane plugin v2.01 + standalone v2.01
I just want to know if it's possible to put multiple materials on a same object.

Because it doesn't work when i try.

For exemple, i have a wine bottle, and i made a glass material for the bottle, and a other for the sticker with alpha of the sticker. and when i drop the two materials on the bottle, just one appears not the two together.

I know the "mix material" but it's not really good looking because mix materials make a fade between the two textures.

when i work with the cinema 4d material editor, i can put a lot of materials with alpha on a same object and it's working correctly.

Why don't with octane ?

Thank you
;-)

Because it's supporting only one material on a face. You can use mix material to mixing two or more material.

ok but mix material is just a fade between two or more materials.
we can't have the two materials visible at 100 % together ?

Why would you want 2 materials to be displayed at 100%. Are you sure you understand what materials are? Do you mean you want it showing at 100% in some places, and the other material at different places?

I just reread your original post.

You use the mix material, and put the alpha in the amount of the mix node, that way the label will show where it should

I'm no expert on things but it occurs to me that it might be easier to select the faces where you want the sticker to go and assign a material to that then inverse select the rest of the bottle and assign your second material to that.

If you do that you wouldn't have to do the alpha thing your're talking about.

I apply multiple materials to a single object all the time by assigning different materials to different groups of polygon faces.

But like the others said, if you want a mixed material that's another approach...

Guys,

Help please i'm just new to the forum and octane.. I'm trying to reach MODO plugin section to post but i cant find a way to post or contact someone. i have the same problem need to achieve... I have a box with a texture name "A", if i need the box with materials to be transparent.... the texture become transparent as well. this is the link i have setup https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9QIUotYmbcncHRnVmJ1N1dLb0E/view?usp=sharing but i cant manage to make the sticker opaque if i adjust the materials opacity.

Is there a proper way achieving it like a simple transparent bottle then you put a transparent sticker with a colored logo that only show.

Any help that will also able me to reach the modo area would be highly appropriated.

Warm Regards,

hi,
I am not a Modo user but the principle is to use a mix material with glass and label using a black and white image (black for glass and white for label) in the amount channel ;)
About the Modo customer section, since you are a new user, I guess that you need to make a couple of post before you have the right permissions to access the customer area in order to avoid the Spam ;)

Hi & Thanks for the startup & welcome help, I'll do research hard for this "How-To" and return back for the success, and for the Modo Plugin Posting area.,. yes, wish it happens soon.

Kind Regards,
