Hi, I try to make a skin shader with SSS since a few hours but cant get it to work.
This is what i have so far, the shader is based on my DAZ_skin shader from liveDB.
I have upload the file with textures, may sombody have a look and help me.

http://www.file-upload.net/download-7427173/sss.7z.html

(20MB)

Inspired from the new Blender Cycles SSS shader:

http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthr ... ost2346548

When it is finish we can upload the shader to the LiveDB for all Octane user.
I use 1.11.

Cheers, mib.

Looks good - although I would expect some red in the ears.

I put an SSS sharer here....http://poserphysics.blogspot.com.au/2012/11/octanerender-sss-skin-shader.html. It's in the Poser plugin format, but you get the idea. Since then, more people have been adding the textuemap to the Transmission pin on the diffuse material, so the SSS is turned off for dark areas of the skin (ie. eyebrowse). Doing that means increasing the SSS effect a lot (ie. using much lower scale).

mib - I have downloaded that head model - and it is fantastic! The normal maps make all the difference. Is this model/maps publicly available - or are you providing it just for getting the SSS shader together?

I need to let this run for a bit longer (7mins on my low-spec card is not enough). I'm getting some glossy reflections of his eyebrows - which I need to kill.

EDIT: That's without the SSS map.

face_off, this model is public and from a 3d scan, have to search from which university the original file comes.
Your tutorial helps a lot, thank you.
Need some tuning here and there.
@gordonrobb, download the file from first post, it is all included.

Cheers, mib.

9000 samples version...

I think the glossy is too much - and that is a function of some glossy creeping through the diffuse material. Next time I would increase the roughness to 0.5 and reduce the specular 25%. I wonder too if maxdepth 12 is too much - since his ears look poor.

Yes, getting better and better.
How do you lit the scene, I use two mesh emitter and an environment texture with low power.

Cheers

I think the geometry you provided had 3 emitters. I used BB emitters on each. From memory, back from power 5, front maybe 10, right side was 75. The a very low power IBL (the Poser default light probe I think).

I'll take a look. But didn't you say it was in poser plugin format?
