hi,

for some personal projects related to automotive design I need believable carbon fiber material, so yesterday tried to play a bit.

haven't played with details too much, just trying to get overall shader of this material right. However even with high enough UVW map I couldn't get enough details on single strand, that causes lack of definition in reflective side..rendering material not exactly what I was expected.

I've already though a way to solve that, but that will be for second try..

c&c are always welcome.

cheers

p.s. scale is way of for this item..

..yes it's actually a bit difficult to get a good looking carbon fibre.. but this looks carbon fibery a lot..
- and add falloff dirt or did you? ..don't use pure black.. I think you got it.. probably a few light smudge marks and ever so slight scratches

Nearly. It's almost right but there's something I can't tell what it is.
Maybe the glancing light is a little plastic looking? I can't say.

The bend of the chair at the front I think has it more or less looking like fibre - it's the reflection at the bend where the back of the chair is that looks a little off.

You're right something just doesn't feel right. I don't try to make it right..
but to feel right & it's just way off..reflections is one of theses things =)

I'll add these with coating layer =) they are important, especially if You do not a product visualisation,
but interior where things are not meant to be completely new =)

here's a bit diff version, without coating layer..
