Hi all,
This thread will be a work in progress for a Villa project we are currently working on.
As usual, all components are in flux and will probably change constantly. Of course, all Comments and Crits welcomed!
First up, the dining room:

that's a cozy atmosphere, Olitech! Love the mood You're polishing here & lookin' forward to see more!
cheers

Thanks guys,
The only thing I hate about these moody images is the low light sampling. =(
I let this one rip to 32,000 samples, (PT 1280x720) but it's still not clean. I'm using IES lights, and the noise always seems to be compounded by these lights. Maybe I'm just not using them correctly?
Going to add more fill lights and bounce cards (octane plane lights) to help remedy the low sample areas and hope that helps. Oh, I also turned off shadow casting (in max) for all glass in hopes more HDR samples flood the room. Maybe I should also jack up the HDR power?
best,
O

Here's a PMC 16,000 update from last night. Way too grainy. After more updates, I'll let this one rip tonight to PMC 32,000 and see what happens. That would be a more accurate comparison.
Any thoughts on noisy IES lights anyone?
Oh, before I forget. Found some GREAT resources for designers (or anyone who likes free models =):
Design Connected - Incredible (real) designer 3D models. The best I've ever seen. Great prices and lots of freebies. (Starck Bonze Stool)
Moooi - Fantastic Dutch design shop. So many free models from the designers (Front Horse Lamp, Marten Baas Smoke Dining Chairs, Marcel Wanders Paper Lamp, Boutique Sofa, Starck Ghost Chairs - not in view)
Polantis - Free models (Baccarat Zenith Chandelier)
Now most of these models from Moooi need to be textured.

I do understand You! Once You try this on Your own, to render dimed lighting with a lot of small or .ies..-life get's crazy.Olitech wrote:The only thing I hate about these moody images is the low light sampling. =(..
Maybe it would be wise to try rendering bigger resolution and try to remove some noise in post or even do some manual tweaks here and there & downscale to 50%
the problem with all those fill lights is that You need to be more careful not to spoil that mood You've already created with this type of lighting.
p.s. thanks for resources! might come handy =)
Hi Olitech,
I'm assuming you've played around with the light sampling? If not, maybe give that a try. Rendering larger like glimpse said is always a good idea for these kinds of images too.
Thanks for the resources. Here's another if you don't already know about it, most objects are offerened as both OBJ and Rhino

Guys,
You mean the global sampling?
Or a 'per light' sampling? Does that work in the Max Plug?
Sweet resource link btw. Thanks!!!
