Hey, don't change the fresnel from 1 to 0 and viceversa too often because Karba has to create another script to invert this value for older scenes.
Please add a table of physical corrected index of refractions and abbe: air, water, diamond, etc. Many people don't know what the ior is.

Regards

There is Ltd about IOR on the Internet. I have a few tables and almost everything is consistent between them. Even found stuff that gives dispersion coefficients (great for gems).

Problem I have is index on a Glossy Mat. . According to what I read, thei is index of Reflection. According to most of what I read this should be the same as the Index of Refraction (which for solids is a notional number, but never the less exists). Problem is, when I out the IOR for chrome (for example) in the index field, it doesn't look anywhere near as good as just having it at 0

Any advice?

This is related to what I was saying too. How does the IOR (index of refraction) relate to the Index (of Reflection) in solids. I've tried to read up on it, and get a sore head).

Surely silver, and gold, polished equally, will reflect the same? No?

Also, this problem with gold would have been the same before the lower limit was 1 as anything below one, the effect was switched off.

Hi There and thanks a lot for the continuous hard work. I´m really enjoying the ongoing improvement of octane! Keep it up!

+1 for Displacement maps
and as always motion blur would be really appreciated :-)

Cheers Silverwing

First of all let me tell you i am really AMAZED. What a support. Unbelievable! So great. A huge compliment to you guys! I am really impressed!

Second thing is about the INDEX of Gold. Elvis is right, the INDEX of gold is 0.4 which lets me trick to let it look real. Octane for jewelry rendering is possible but it need some very special tweaks. This would be a huge improvement for Precious Metal and Gemstones!

Kind regards Chris!

I know it's not policy to comment on when things are going to happen, but MB was previously stated to be around June, are you close on this or is it still months away?

thanks

IOR means Index Of Refraction. As gold and other metals are not transparent, they don't have an IOR, they are only reflective.

OK. Wrong written. Of course i ment the INDEX, not the IOR. If you have read the text it should be clear. I ment the fresnel INDEX. Got it now? Nevertheless it should be dont to improve the render quality and workflow.

Kind regards Chris!

Nice try ;) We didn't state any times for any upcoming features and especially not for motion blur and we will keep it that way. Partially because we don't want to tell, partially because we don't know.
