The OctaneRender™ Team is proud to announce the test release of OctaneRender™ beta 3.03.

Please read the release notes of v1.0 beta3.02. There is a file format change, scenes made
in this version of Octane will not be compatible with beta 3.01 or older.

EDIT: The version released on 19/10/2012 had an incorrect version selection for compute model 1.x GPUs.
We fixed the issue and replaced the archives on 23/10/2012. If you are using an older GPU and
downloaded the archive before that date, we recommend to re-download and re-install the archive.

Changes since beta 3.03

Rendering:
  • Added caustic blur parameter to the kernel settings to approximate caustics on rough surfaces.
  • Lighting of rough specular materials is rendered more efficiently.
  • Fixed numerical issues with triangle intersection causing triangles to disappear.
  • Fixed spot on glossy materials when looking perpendicularly onto an object.
  • Hotpixel removel works more evenly over the entire image.
  • Added tangent vector direction to deep_channel_kernel.
  • Fixed performance issues on Mac and Linux.
  • GPU's with compute model 1.2 and 1.3 (like the GTX 260 and GTX 280) run faster.
Node graph and UI:
  • Added support for higher texture counts on Kepler GPUs and eliminated error popups when the limit is reached.
  • Fixed spurious error dialogs when copying mesh nodes if the MTL file contains invalid textures.
  • Fixed bug making it impossible to connect the input pins of certain nodes having more than one output pin.
  • Fixed pasting nodes from older versions of Octane.
  • Panning the camera is consistent when zooming in and out and changing the resolution.
  • Fixed crash when trying to load a mesh without valid triangles.
  • Show progress of downloading macros from OctaneLive and allow cancelling the download.
  • If all GPU's fail the status is updated immediately.
  • Password fields display properly on all platforms.
  • LiveDB thumbnails load faster.
Other:
  • Quoted command line arguments on Linux are interpreted properly.
  • Fixed high CPU usage on Linux.
Changes since beta 3.01
  • The file format has been updated. Older versions of OctaneRender can't load scenes saved in this version.
  • The glossy BRDF has been updated. The roughness control has a more linear behavior, and the Fresnel effect
    can be controlled better.
  • CUDA Framework update: There is no longer a separate Kepler build, and users don't have to install a CUDA
toolkit anymore on Mac OS and Linux.
  • Color accuracy has been improved compared to previous versions.
  • Added near clipping plane to the camera settings.

Driver Requirements
This build requires an NVIDIA driver supporting CUDA 4.2.

For Mac OS you need a CUDA driver. We recommend using version 4.2.10 (http://www.nvidia.com/object/mac-driver-archive.html).
The display driver should be automatically updated by Mac OS.

On Linux and Windows you only need a recent enough NVIDIA driver. This release has been tested with driver version 306.97 on Windows and 304.51 on Linux.

Manual
The manual has been updated for the new features introduced in the beta 3.0x releases.

Yours,
The OctaneRender™ Team.

Fixed high CPU usage on Linux.
Thumbs up for this one. Octane eating half my CPU power even when paused, was bugging me from the start...

Also, I confirm this version is faster than 303 on Linux. Most noticeably in PT & DL, but PMC is slightly faster too (except in the case of Chess set procedural, where it's slightly slower - but thats ok, because overall its a nice speed increase)

Thanks!

That is how it works.
It can significantly reduce caustic noise in case caustic details are not very important.
Here is PT with 1000 samples.

Ha, nice update.
Is this the Release Candidate for stable 1.0?

There is something wrong with texture/materials in 1.0 if I open a file from 3.03.

Cheers, mib.

Very nice release, thanks. :) I'm getting much faster render times with this release. Although I'm still having problems with the turntable animation, this version feels very stable to me.

Does it depend on camera angle and position?

RC already?
So it means there will be no way to adjust white balance in final version of Octane?
I was kind of hoping that there will be still some stuff implemented for final version. A bit dissapointing.
Adjusting color palance using only camera curves is very limiting.

rayipslon issue, the same I found in Octane for max using cameras with low fov: from 1 to 10

for color balance use Nik effects, they are more efficient.
In the suite you get Dfine for noise reduction, Sharpner pro for enhance details, Viveza for local adjustments.
All my Octane renders are color corrected with Nik.
