Hi all, there is a test file from karba in the 1.11 thread:

http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 8&start=40

It is not so nice like the examples from beppe :) but a start.

Cheers, mib.

Thank you Beppe - although your description of how to do it was spot-on, having a properly setup example really brings it home.

I have a question for the collective on this feature. I'm pretty sure that it's not how this feature is intended to be used, but since when do we let that stop us? ;)

Suppose we wanted to have just a portion of the scene contain fog. In my case, it is a sci-fi containment unit with a little bit of geometry inside. To date, I've been adding fog/mist in container at post, but seeing this feature got me wondering how it would look in the raw plates. Any thoughts on whether this is doable or whether the results would warrant the time spent? I'm pretty sure I'd still have to add some at post for subtle movements of the fog.

Hi, I'm trying to get that nice god-ray effect in a scene I'm working on, but I cannot get it to work properly. I turned on Fake Shadows in the specular material, and yes, I get some shadows, but they are REALLY weak, barely visible. How can I increase the shadow effect? I tried playing with the Scale of my specular material, and with the light intensity, but nothing seems to work, the shadows I get are really really weak. I Checked Beppe's scene and I don't get what he has done differently, beside having a sphere inside the volume, which I don't have, because my camera is outside. Any suggestion? Beppe? Karba?

Thanks
Chris.
Thank you Chris, but unfortunately the video doesn't show anything that I haven't tried already.
I've noticed that I have big volumes, like pillars or walls with holes, the effect is more visible, but I'm trying to achieve something like this: http://alturl.com/kjij5 and it seems impossible with the current system, as the god-rays Octane produces seem to not catch the fine structure of the trees... :(

hi rick, have you played with the phase value?
it has a great impact on the power of the effect, take care that, with values near -1 or +1, the effect disappear ;)
