hi there,
i have a relative simple feature request which could eventually have huge impact ...
its about the round edge feature - at least in the su plugin its already there and working like a charm - now .. what would really set octance apart from competition would be if there would be a simple "node" or lets say the simple possibility to mix a noise map or any other map inside this feature so that the edges not look perfectly clean...
this would add some imperfections and with it lots of real life feel to it!!!
i would love to have this feature=) anyone with me on this?
(sorry for posting in the dev build section but i coudnt find any feature requeset sections?!)
feature request - round edges -> make it awesome

even though I don't use the rounded edges feature, I think this would really help out renders look more realistic.

Wait, rounded edges work for you? in 2.20 standalone for me they are still broken and just makes everything faceted. Basically it does the opposite of what it is supposed to do.
Also for additional features the rounded edges should work with intersecting objects of the same material. Similar to V-Ray.

Here are some examples.
No rounded edges: Rounded edges set to 0.2: And this is how it should look:

On a first glance, this looks like a scaling issue. (The radius of the rounded edges is in meters) Could you send us the scene as a package?shawnfrueh wrote:Here are some examples.

I think it may be just the geometry being not watertight. Octane rounds only the adjacent edges, both having common vertices (the GPU imposes some limitations in rounded edges calculations). But some 3d modelling applications export just set of scattered polygons instead of one watertight mesh: it may look like one mesh, but it isn't.

It is watertight(default cube subdivided once). This was brought into Octane through the C4D plugin. I am pretty sure it doesn't split up the polys. But that would be a question for Aoktar.JimStar wrote:I think it may be just the geometry being not watertight. Looks like if I turn off the smooth check-box I can get the rounding that I want at 0.0017. However, I need smoothing turned on. Is this a bug or is that how it is supposed to work?
The smoothing Check-box does not work on the material preview model.
EDIT: Example

Jimstar,
Does Maya export watertight meshes ?
Thanks
