The Linux version of OctaneRender™ for Blender plugin, 64-bit.

The bundle consists from two parts:
1. OctaneRender™ Server
2. Blender - OctaneRender™ edition.

The first part (server) should be run on the same computer as the second one..
After the server is run - you can start rendering (or open a rendered view) from inside Blender. Before the very first rendering you should fill in the server address (only 127.0.0.1 at the time), login and password (your license key info) to activate the server. After the first rendering the server will remember this activation info, and you will not need to enter it again.

You should use only OctaneRender materials inside Blender scenes - the plugin knows nothing about Blender specific materials and textures (about any Blender nodes, generally speaking).

FIXES AND NEW FEATURES SINCE LAST RELEASE
  • Fixed the filenames encoding inconsistency between Blender and server in some cases.
  • Fixed the 2D-transform node translation bug.
  • Minor fixes and improvements...

Installation:
- Just run the installer to see its command line keys.;)
- If you need to run the OctaneServer - run it as daemon:

Code: Select all

Thanks Jim, :D

It's working great on my Linux box. I am having a problem with the open subdiv. At least I think it's a problem. To replicate the issue just select a object with several other objects unselected. I then select the object data icon. Then I enable open subdiv and all of the objects become subdivided. I was thinking that the object data only applies to the selected object and not all of them. Can anyone else confirm this? Thanks,

Jason

You must not use the subdiv with "Global" mesh types. All "Global" meshes - are forming just ONE big global mesh (having world space vertices coordinates) inside Octane engine.

Guys, please, take a time and read about mesh types in the manual. A LOT of "issues" here are from bad understanding of these ground things...

Thanks Jim, sorry for the misunderstanding. How do you just apply the subdiv to a single object? None of the other mesh types work if I set the object to them and enable subdiv.

*Edited* Ah I figured it out, it doesn't show in the preview, just in the final render.

I'm also having a problem with the edge rounding. I was trying it with the default Blender cube which is water tight so it should work?

Perhaps there is some issue on your side... If so - would be good if you will be able to isolate the reason...
As it works OK on my side:

What value have you chosen for the edge rounding? I've tried to reproduce your result and gotten the same image using the amount 1 and higher. But with 0,1 or 0,2 for example everything looks ok. It's it looks logical for me as the edge rounding depends on the size of the object and the basic Blender cube has the size 2*2*2. So, chosing 1, you make it impossible to work properly.

And about a subdiv. Just change the mesh type in object settings and that's it, you can activate subdiv! And it should be shown on preview too.

I use Windows but still... Try it, you have nothing to loose. ;)

I tried with the same settings in your images. I think I was a bit overzealous with the rounded edges, the setting is very sensitive. Here is what I get, definitely looks better except for the strange rounding on the top edges.

The subdiv does nothing in preview, I tried all the mesh types, only global changes the mesh.

I did compile the plugin if that makes any difference:

Code: Select all

cmake
make clean
make -j6
sudo make install
Thanks,

Sorry Saramary,

I posted before I saw your post. Yep, I was overcranking the rounded edge setting. The subdiv is still an issue I think. :(

But your orange cube looks like with subdiv enabled... Isn't it?

Got it! Decrease the sharpness. :)

Nope, the orange cube I subdivided using Blender's subdiv modifier. When I restarted Blender it started working, kind of. When I tried to rotate the scene, Blender became unresponsive, this is while the viewport was in render mode. Eventually I was able to get the mode to change to solid and it became responsive again. Then when I went back into rendered mode the subdiv wasn't using the sharpness setting and the cube was a sphere. Then when I started adjusting the sharpness, it popped back into use. So I'm not sure what's going on? :? I suspect it's probably something to do with how I compiled the plugin.
