The Linux version of OctaneRender™ for Blender plugin, 64-bit.

The bundle consists from two parts:
1. OctaneRender™ Server
2. Blender - OctaneRender™ edition.

The first part (server) should be run on the same computer as the second one..
After the server is run - you can start rendering (or open a rendered view) from inside Blender. Before the very first rendering you should fill in the server address (only 127.0.0.1 at the time), login and password (your license key info) to activate the server. After the first rendering the server will remember this activation info, and you will not need to enter it again.

You should use only OctaneRender materials inside Blender scenes - the plugin knows nothing about Blender specific materials and textures (about any Blender nodes, generally speaking).

FIXES AND NEW FEATURES SINCE LAST RELEASE
  • Fixed bug: material ID mapping was shown differently after every full frame refresh.
  • Fixed bug: material preview icon rendering caused crash.
  • Fixed full material preview scene.
  • Shader Groups now work if connected to Octane nodes.

Installation:
- Just run the installer to see its command line keys.;)
- If you need to run the OctaneServer - run it as daemon:

Code: Select all

Hey Jimstar,

Still sadness, OctaneServer still crashes when I try to edit a node in render mode. :( This is with the default cube and when I try to turn off smoothing or change the color.

Code: Select all

./OctaneServer

OctaneServer v. 5.1

Octane: LiveDB cache refresh started...
Octane: LiveDB cache refresh complete
ERROR: Program executed illegal instruction.. terminating
Thanks for adding in the Ctrl-C option for killing OctaneServer, much nicer now. Blender doesn't report any errors, except the normal ones because I killed the server.

Code: Select all

./blender

How did you install it? Are you sure, that the liboctane.so and octane.dat in /usr/lib are both from this release?..

Same like 5.0 :

1. Change the material (for example smooth turned off) while live viewing as rendered result : crush
2. Turning to live preview immediately after startup, result : that blank render screen that says in the top
section that message something like 172.0.0.1 not found (If I first press F12 and then turn to render view it works)
3. Just reinstalled 4.9beta, viewing in render mode works many times faster. For example while rotating the 3d view in rendered view

I usually install in a directory in my home dir with the -e option and then copy the files in lib to /usr/lib:

Code: Select all

sudo cp * /usr/lib
Thomas and I are working on another issue with stand alone and the subdiv stuff not working on my system that he said might be related to my graphics card (GTX 460). Could they be the same issue?

Edit: looks like Synthercat and I have the same issue so maybe it's Linux Mint or something else?

Hi, I have the same problems with preview.
Server crash if I change color in preview render with/without border for Octane Diffuse Material for example.
Same with change from diffuse to specular.
Alll with default cube.
If I stop the preview, change color start preview again it work fine.

Cheers, mib

Well I upgraded to the 340.32 version of the Nvidia driver but no help with the server crashing when changing the material node. :(

There is a different reason of this, not the driver. Already fixed it. Will be released soon in 5.2.
