The plugin is written in c++ and is looking for a property with name OctaneMap.
If any is found, it change the image filepath to the project folder and change the image name to meshname_RenderMap, then the plugin calls the routine to regenerate the map via a script like command.
It´s relative simple and it works for every mesh on every frame.
On the times you wrote, i overwrite the existing scene to save the materials in the Octane-ocs file because that is the place, where Octane search for the materials on existing scenes.
On a fresh exported mesh/scenes, Octane uses the mtl-file. Thats the background why any change in Softimage materials doesn´t work on existing meshes/scenes...
You can test it to make two cubes, give any an other phong materials, hide one and export the scene as a new one.
The material should be gray (standard SI material). Change the material in Octane and save the scene.
Go back to SI, unhide the second cube and change the color from both cubes to an other as in Octane.
Export again and the first cube should have the color which you have set in Octane and the second cube have the color you defind in SI.
