The OSX version of OctaneRender™ for Maya® plugin, 64-bit.

Maya® Version Requirements

This release will work with Maya® Version 2015 64-bit on OSX operating system (including and above 10.8).

Notes regarding features/functionality

OctaneRender™ for Maya® implements almost full functionality of OctaneRender™ standalone inside Maya®.

COMPATIBILITY AND OCTANERENDER STANDALONE REQUIREMENT

To run OctaneRender™ for Maya®, you need to also have an activated OctaneRender™ Standalone copy activated on the machine you wish to install the plugin onto.
You cannot purchase and use only the Maya plugin and use it without also owning an activated copy of OctaneRender™ Standalone on your machine
.

HOW TO PURCHASE LICENSES

Go to our online shop here: http://render.otoy.com/shop/

If you do not own an OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition License yet:
You can purchase both the OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition and the OctaneRender™ for Maya® Edition as a reduced price bundle, purchase the bundle priced at 459€

If you already own one or more OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition licenses you want to pair the plugin with:
Purchase an "OctaneRender™ for Maya® Beta License" priced at 199€

You can also purchase a 3, 5 or 10 pack of OctaneRender™ for Maya® licenses, just like OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition packs.

OCTANELIVE

Just like OctaneRender™ Standalone, the Maya® plugin product also needs an additional OctaneLive license and be activated on a machine.
This has to be done in the plugin interface panel in Maya, and is covered in the included PDF manual.
It can only be done after an OctaneRender™ Standalone license is already activated on the machine in question.

Thanks JimStar
Looking forward to trying the import from Local DB feature.

In the stand-alone you can right click on a material and save the orbx file to your local DB and based on the location preferences of your local DB it will save the orbx file there with preview icon etc. And you can import it back in etc

In the Maya interface I see a new shelf icon that lets you import a new material from the Live DB
I was able to import from the Live DB

I do not see anything in the Local DB except the add category.

Does Octane for Maya use the path that the stand-alone does for the Local DB and if not where do you set it in maya

Where is the store to local DB "button" you refer to in the release notes

Thanks

Ah ha... found the store button.

Select the node in the hypershade
Right click and select the material name

Store to Octane DB right there... saved it to my local data base woo hoo... love it.

Then it showed up in the new category that I added with the new toolshelf import icon.

But I'm still trying to find the directory that Maya looks at as its local DB. It is not the one set in the stand-alone. I could not find it in the Maya default project location.

Where is that sucker hidden. :D

Thanks

Peter

import from db shelf icon action.

Two repeatable bugs that I notice.

The GUI window from the shelf icon stays behind other windows.

The shelf iocn works twice but then will not after that.
If you quit and reopen Maya GUI interface comes up again but only a limited number of times

2-3 then will not open again

Thanks

I can reproduce the first one (but it is only behind additional Maya tool-windows, not behind the main Maya window). It looks like this in OSX only - it seems Maya gives them more Z-order priority. Will check it.
But the second one - I can't reproduce. It opens-closes for me any amount of times... Could you look at SE - what appears there when you are clicking this toolshelf button?..

Right you are man. I tried it many times and it get coming up fine.
(I wonder if it was hiding somewhere and I did not see it. )

Try and see if you get this JimStar.

Open the Mac OSX standalone and save a simple material to the local data base at the standard MAcOSX location
Use Maya shelf icon to import it... It shows up fine with its thumbnail etc. Nothing is selected and when I try and import it nothing happens and nothing in the SE either.

I know it is experimental... but I am getting erratic behavior. I selected a mesh... selected the same material that did not come in before and then it crashed.

Opened it up again and was able to select an object and then import the previous material that did nothing and it came in.
But the mesh that was selected when I imported the material did not have it applied.

I'll keep testing... but it does seem to be a little erratic. As I am just testing right now it is not coming up again and nothing in SE either

octane -odb;

Is all that shows but no GUI... not anywhere under other screens either.

Something is whacky... but may take some detailed step by step testing.

Peter

See if you get the same thing.
