This is the test release

Otoy® is proud to announce the availability of a new version of OctaneRender™ for Maya®
The world's fastest and most feature-rich unbiased render engine that integrates completely into Autodesk® Maya®.

Maya® Version Requirements

This release will work with Maya® Versions 2013, 2013.5 / 32-bit & 64-bit, 2014 64-bit and 2015 64-bit on MS Windows operating systems.

Notes regarding features/functionality

OctaneRender™ for Maya® implements almost full functionality of OctaneRender™ standalone inside Maya®.

COMPATIBILITY AND OCTANERENDER STANDALONE REQUIREMENT

To run OctaneRender™ for Maya®, you need to also have an activated OctaneRender™ Standalone copy activated on the machine you wish to install the plugin onto.
You cannot purchase and use only the Maya plugin and use it without also owning an activated copy of OctaneRender™ Standalone on your machine
.

HOW TO PURCHASE LICENSES

Go to our online shop here: http://render.otoy.com/shop/

If you do not own an OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition License yet:
You can purchase both the OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition and the OctaneRender™ for Maya® Edition as a reduced price bundle, purchase the bundle priced at 359€

If you already own one or more OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition licenses you want to pair the plugin with:
Purchase an "OctaneRender™ for Maya® Beta License" priced at 199€

You can also purchase a 3, 5 or 10 pack of OctaneRender™ for Maya® licenses, just like OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition packs.

OCTANELIVE

Just like OctaneRender™ Standalone, the Maya® plugin product also needs an additional OctaneLive license and be activated on a machine.
This has to be done in the plugin interface panel in Maya, and is covered in the included PDF manual.
It can only be done after an OctaneRender™ Standalone license is already activated on the machine in question.

CHANGES AND FIXES SINCE LAST RELEASE:
  • Big plugin's refactoring as preparation to ongoing 2.0 engine usage (therefore it is released as "test" so far). Report please if you will get some issues, I will fix them as fast as possible.
  • New 1.55 engine.
  • Maya 2015 support added.
  • Octane light-sources are improved.
  • Mesh visibility attributes are added. You need to understand, that this will work only for non-Global meshes (Octane engine is not able to hide some parts of one mesh object, the whole object only).
  • Some improvements in materials conversion feature.
  • A lot of minor bug fixes and improvements...

Hiha, thanks Jim !

But there is no support for Maya 2012 ? Can you tell us if it will be planned for future stable releases and for the upcoming 2.0 ?
If not we'll have to upgrade all our Maya licenses... :|

The plugin supports 4 previous releases, so when one is added on top, one is dropped from the bottom. Support of such amount of different backward compatibilities (moreover, for different OSes and architectures each) spreads the the work forcing me to write and test a lot of different code for the same functionality, special to every ancient Maya version, before releasing of every new version of plugin.
Moreover, especially the border between Maya's 2012 and 2013 had some important differences that restricted a lot of plugin's functionality in 2012, forcing me to add some ugly workarounds to achieve what was gracefully done in 2013 and later...
So, if you do not have some special need to stick to 2012 - I advice you to move to some newer Maya version or use the previous stable plugin's version...

Thanks JimStar for Your work!

I have found first issue.
It seems that sun direction is not working. From the beginning it's fixed in non vertical position.

Is it possible to add support for camera motion blur in this relase?

Hi Jim,

the sphere light renders fine, but when I try the plane light, I get the following error:

// 0:00 Octane engine: creating meshes... //
// 0:00 Gathering Mesh objects data... //
// 0:00 ...done, //
// 0:00 Gathering Subdiv objects data... //
// 0:00 ...done, //
// 0:00 Gathering Octane Light objects data... //
// Error: Octane: error allocating the memory for Object "octaneLight1" //
// Error: Octane: Error mesh export. Octane render stopped. //

cheers,

Steve
