Refractive Software®/Otoy® is proud to announce the availability of a new version of OctaneRender™ for Maya®
The world's fastest and most feature-rich unbiased render engine that integrates completely into Autodesk® Maya®.

Maya® Version Requirements

This release will work with Maya® Versions 2011, 2012 and 2013 / 32-bit & 64-bit on MS Windows operating systems.

Notes regarding features/functionality

OctaneRender™ for Maya® implements almost full functionality of OctaneRender™ standalone inside Maya®. Materials from the Live DB are currently not available.

COMPATIBILITY AND OCTANERENDER STANDALONE REQUIREMENT

To run OctaneRender™ for Maya®, you need to also have an activated OctaneRender™ Standalone copy activated on the machine you wish to install the plugin onto.
You cannot purchase and use only the Maya plugin and use it without also owning an activated copy of OctaneRender™ Standalone on your machine
.

HOW TO PURCHASE LICENSES

Go to our online shop here: http://www.refractivesoftware.com/shop/

If you do not own an OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition License yet:
You can purchase both the OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition and the OctaneRender™ for Maya® Edition as a reduced price bundle, purchase the bundle priced at 179€

If you already own one or more OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition licenses you want to pair the plugin with:
Purchase an "OctaneRender™ for Maya® Beta License" priced at 99€

You can also purchase a 3, 5 or 10 pack of OctaneRender™ for Maya® licenses,
just like OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition packs.

OCTANELIVE

Just like OctaneRender™ Standalone, the Maya® plugin product also needs an additional OctaneLive license and be activated on a machine.
This has to be done in the plugin interface panel in Maya, and is covered in the included PDF manual.
It can only be done after an OctaneRender™ Standalone license is already activated on the machine in question.

BUG FIXES SINCE LAST RELEASE:

  • Fixed LiveDB issue that sometimes led to Maya crash.
  • Fixed ViewPort textures scaling issue when playing animation.
  • Some speed improvements of Octane textures in the ViewPort...

I know about the "Object 'scrollLayoutLiveDB' not found" message in Maya console (during loading). Don't worry about it, it does not affect the plugin's work.;)
I will remove this message in next version...

Very little limitation: browsing for image files from an octane node does not seem to work with the "OSNative" browser (windows explorer style vs maya browser style) as set in my preferences. Not a big deal though.

Strange...
What for PDF-reader software is set as "default" in your system? With Foxit Reader all is OK, it does not open its window in modal mode...

Wow!! I just updated to this release. LIVEDB will be awesome!

Could it be possible to detach it from the render settings?
I experience troubles if I try to reaccess this tab more than one time:
- It crashes maya
- Very slow to open (this tab)
- It masks/replaces my OctaneRender settings, no way to re-access them without crashing.
- The icons of the materials are very big, I can't see the categories or get an overall view.

I don't want to be annoying, just overexcited to use Octane for the first time! (could not understand the standalone). I am working with it for my first commercial project and it will look very good! hee haa!

I will think about it later... Unfortunately Hypershader can't be used for this purpose...:(

Strange, I don't have these crashes. Can you send me please the .dmp and .log files that Maya creates after crash (they are stored in user's "Temp" directory)?

RickToxik wrote:- Very slow to open (this tab)

It is slow only the first time you open this tab (as there are a big amount of controls in the Maya's static window template, and Maya works with all these script-templates to form the window... I hate scripts in speed-critical code, but it is how Maya's native UI works).
But it must be very fast all other times you open it, and will be very fast when you work with overall material base - as the window is formed only one time and is static.

RickToxik wrote:- It masks/replaces my OctaneRender settings, no way to re-access them without crashing.

I did not understand what you mean... Can you please decsribe it more detail?.. And .dmp and .log of this crash will be very useful too...

RickToxik wrote:- The icons of the materials are very big, I can't see the categories or get an overall view.

This is very individual... I think I should make the setting in render settings "the LiveDB preview size"... I will think about it...

Thanks for your reports!
The more reports - the more likely this plugin will become well usable for Maya artists...;) As I'm not the Maya-user by myself, the reports of people who use it in its work are very important. So, feel free to post them here.;)
